Hysteroscopy and then IVF Question

My husband and I have done most tests and everything comes back "normal".  We have been through 3 IUI's and one Fresh and one Frozen IVF with no pregnancies or answers yet. My RE wants us to do a hysteroscopy test now just to make sure nothing was missed. We are very comfortable with this decision and hope something small, quick, and fixable is found so the next IVF is a success. 

 

Just curious if others have had this test and how long they have to wait before starting the next cycle, the actual stim meds???

 

I have read that most doctors want patients to wait one cycle. I have an appointment with the RE for a pre-op 9/26 but I am impatient and want to start hoping for the next cycle. My period is supposed to start 9/20 but I am already spotting (9/13). I would ovulate 10/3 (my natural cycles are textbook, ovulate day 14, period days 27 or 29 every month for 3 years of tracking until this cycle but I just failed the frozen cycle) and my procedure is scheduled for 10/2. I will take BCP once my flow starts to stop ovulation for the procedure so I am hoping the very next period (2 weeks after the procedure) I will be able to start the stim meds rather than wait a whole 4 weeks for the next cycle (but pretty sure that is what I will have to do). Plus, I just learned three girls I work with are all pregnant. So now I feel even more frustrated and like it will just never happen. The next IVF will be a 5-day transfer so hope that helps too!

 

Anyone else have advice on the hysteroscopy test and then going forward with IVF?

good luck!  I hope that it is a really simple fix for you and you get a BFP soon!  I do not know if you had one before but I had one and I had my dr. do it and it did not hurt but other people said that it did so I suggest getting your dr. to do it.

Yes, my RE is doing the procedure. He has done my other fertility treatments so I feel that he wants this to happen for us as much as we do and if he can get any answers, that's a plus!

The hysteroscopy was one of the first things I had done at my RE's office during the diagnosis portion before I started IVF.  Mine was diagnostic and not surgical. It was done if I remember around CD6 for me (after your period but before your lining starts to thicken).  It was a bit crampy when they had the scope in (take some Tylenol before hand).  I did get to see the inside of my uterus and the entrances to my fallopian tubes on the screen so I thought that was kinda cool.  They were checking for scar tissue from my D&C or any polyps.  I had none so once I started my period, I started my IVF cycle.  If they did find something during the hysterscopy, they will probably schedule you for a follow up appointment then to take care of any issues they find.

Thanks for the info!!! I will be put under, I believe, so I won't get to see any of it : so when you say you started the next period, you started the stim meds and 1014 days later, did the retrieval? Just making sure you didnt start bcp then 23 weeks later started the stim meds. Hope i can start that next cycle, I just want to get pregnant already!!!!

I am scheduled for my first hysteroscopy on cd6 which is 2 weeks or so from now. She never said anything about waiting at all before Ivf, we are moving along normally assuming its all fine.

After the hysteroscopy and I had my period, I started my BCP's to begin my IVF cycle.  I was only on BCPs for 12 days though for my protocol and then started stims shortly after that.

Oh good! Hope that is my case. They would have done mine 6 days after my period but completely booked so I have to wait till the following Tuesday. We are getting a 2000 discount doing it the same day as his already scheduled procedures and since I have to go on bcp I hope it will be fine.

Okay, good point, a reason to love the pill again!!! The waiting to do Ivf is almost as bad as the 2ww!!! Almost!

I just had a hysteroscopy on 9/6 which was cd 6 for me. I start bcp on or around the 27th for a month and have our baseline appt 10/25. I wish I only had to be on bcp for 12 days I guess it just depends on your protocol?

Yes it very much depends on your protocol.  I am also a poor responder/high FSH/DOR so they didn't want to oversuppress me by having me on BCP's for too long.

I had a hysteroscopy done I July 12 th this year and still have not started my secon ivf cycle yet! Very fustrated here! I needed cycle day 3 blood work and couldn't get a period to save my life!!! So they finally have me provera at the end of aug and I got my period and did my blood work a few weeks ago. Now I have my calendar for middle of oct to start.good luck I know how much it sucks waiting around .
Ohhhh I did have a polyp removed and they did a dc as well.

Thanks everyone that posted. Seems like if things are "normal", people could start right away but if something was found, a little later. Hope to be stuffed full of embryos by Thanksgiving! Wow, that seems so far away!
