OB/GYN in Owings Mills & Hospital Question

Hi! I just recently found out that I am pregnant with my first. I currently go to a great Gyno but she is not an OB. I will have my first appointment with her and she will make sure everything is going as it should be and then she will recommend an OB/GYN for me to start seeing. I will definitely assess her recommendations but I wanted to see if you ladies could recommend your OBs for me. I live in Owings Mills and would like to stay around there for my doctor. I work near Laurel, which is far as it is, so having a doctor close to home would be a big help (the less driving I have to do the better).

Also, I was wondering if anyone had a preference on which hospital to use. That will also kind of help me determine which OB to use. I have been leaning towards the main Hopkins campus (my husband works there) or GBMC because it seems like everyone likes that one.

Any advice you have or anything would be greatly appreciated...especially from you ladies that have done this before!! :)

TIA!!

Re: OB/GYN in Owings Mills & Hospital Question

  • Welcome and congrats!! My OB/GYN is Dr. Sorra and she's in Pikesville at Village OB/GYN. I love her and can't recommend her enough. She delivers at Sinai Hospital and I had a wonderful birth and recovery experience there. Good luck!!

  • I live in Owings Mills too. My OB is off of Reisterstown Road in the Crossroads building 23. It is about 5-10 minutes away from me. I am off of Lyons Mill Road. It is an office of 6 OBGYNs and I have seen all of them. My doctor is Sonia Zaft and she is so thorough and awesome! They deliver at Sinai and both of my experiences their were great, loved every moment!

  • I used OBGYN Specialists of MD , also off Crossroads and McDonogh and delivered at GBMC. I loved all the doctors there and particularly the midwife. I just moved from the area (to Laurel) and still travel to see them- that's how much I liked the practice.

I had a terrible issue with Dr. Zaft (previously mentioned) so I would encourage everyone to stay far away from her. We refer to her as "the butcher".  The rest of the practice there is good though and a friend just had a nice delivery at Sinai with them (Dr. Kates maybe?)- however her BFing help was way lacking compared to what I got at GBMC.

Mercy gets good reviews too and is more "in between" for you. I know there is a good midwife practice out of there. I've heard more horror stories than I can count about Hopkins.

  • I also use OBGYN Specialist of MD in Owings Mills.  They deliver out of GBMC and I've had two great birthing experiences with them.
  • Thank you everyone! I really appreciate the advice.  This is a big help!
