yeast infection? not that kind.....

So B has had this diaper rash for a week or so that is not really going away. Yesterday it got pretty bad, it is bright red and I noticed as soon as I take his diaper off his hands are down there trying to scratch himself. I called and spoke  to a nurse at the pedi office and she said that it sounds like a yeast infection and to put lotrimin on it 3x per day. Has anyone ever dealt with a yeast infection with your LO? Any tips to make it go away? I seriously did not know little boys could get this.

  • I don't know about the yeast infection specifically, but DS has had a diaper rash that was bright red that wouldn't go away. We ended up putting hydrocortizone on it. Does B have eczema? DS's pedi thought his rash may have been related to that and was eventually cleared up by the prescription hydrocortizone + a smear of A&D on top.

  • yeah he did have eczema pretty bad in the winter. as soon as spring got here though, it completely cleared up and hasn't been back since. I feel bad for him, I can tell he is really itchy!

one thing the nurse suggested is giving him plenty of time to run around au naturel....hahaha. I'm not quite sure how to pull that off without there being pee everywhere. he pees the second his diaper comes off 90% of the time.

  • Yes, DS got a yeast infection from antibiotics and we treated it with Lotrimin.  It cleared up in a couple of days.  It works fairly quickly so just keep at it.
  • yes - DD has had them a few times. Now if she complains about being scratchy at all, I'll just pust lotrimin on it that day and normally its cleared up the next day.

  • Yes, DD had one and we ended up putting some prescription strength stuff on it because she had thrush AND and YI.

DS does the same. When we take his diaper off before a bath, I know I have about 3 seconds before he'll pee. He spends zero time au natural that's not in the tub!

  • I try to let DD "air out" after her bath, before bed.

  • yep we had the same rash after antiobitics , it looked almost like a burn - so sad . So the magic cure for us was lotrimin ( the stuff for athletes foot - doesnt have to be name brand ) then add a layer of  balmex . Dr Turner gave us this info once and it has been a lifesaver. Some docs also recc hydrocortizone  in the middle after lotrimin but before balmex as well if its super bad( but u cant use the hydrocortizone for too many days)

I also  bought triple paste at CVS ( it was super $$) but worked like a charm - it has cornstartch in it which my daycare lady said would work and it did .  GL

  • Devyn had them a couple of times when he was little. The lotrimin helped pretty quickly.
