OK very weird week indeed. Our BP's didn't want to deal with our lawyer because they felt she was lying to them. In fact she wasn't lying she was just misinformed, but we found them a new lawyer. Today, based on counsel from the new laywer, we had to terminate our lawyer completely today because she wasn't handling BM expenses properly for the state we are adopting from. This was a big no-no. Spent an hour on the phone with our new lawyer and so far I really like her. I am a bit concerned our BP's will not because she is tough, knows the laws for their state and will start making them comply which our original lawyer did not.
I received a call from my BM last night stating she needed money for food and that she had nothing to eat for dinner. She received her weekly allowance on Thursday, so I am not sure what happened to the money and it is not my place to ask.
Our new lawyer is handling it, but has anyone else had any issues with BM's requesting more than is legally allowed? Also starting to get some bad feelings because our BM lied to our new lawyer. Not a huge lie, but enough to make me question some things. Don't want to confront her about it, but it is really beginning to make me nervous.
Re: BM and expenses
Ugh.... that puts you in a tough spot.
What state? States like FL are sort of wacky when it comes to expenses... the law says one thing and the standard practice is to submit an appeal for a higher expense budget. I hope that's not the case in your state because BM will probably expect the higher budget because sometimes it is possible. Very "grey".
I had a BM that needed a lot in transportation which got to be a headache. Lots of back and forth.
Our first match went bad not just because of the expenses, but there were other issues too which led to legal risk, etc. But I found out that our lawyer was sending them extra money out of his own pocket for the BF's medications. Like $400/month. There were just so many red flags that made us uncomfortable at first that we ignored until everything came to a head and we terminated the match on the advice of the lawyer. The good thing about the lawyer though, we that all expense requested had to go thru the case manager, they couldn't ask us directly for anything.
TTC since May 2006. After 3 failed Clomid cycles, 2 failed Injectibles/IUIs, 2 failed IVFs and 1 failed FET, we moved on to adoption!
Last ditch FET resulted in BFP, and identical twin girls!
