Preemies

Anyone with a micropreemie out there?

I kindly respect and feel for all those who had a preemie, but just wanted to see if there were any other moms of micropreemies out there.... if so, what is your story?  How old is your LO now and what kind of progress are they making?

Re: Anyone with a micropreemie out there?

  • There are many moms on here with a micropreemie and several of them have shared their story on our blog (link in my siggy and on main page).

Please remember that each preemie (micro or not) is unique so while we can all share stories it's important to not compare. <3

We're a close board, so if you have any other questions we'll all help however we can.

  • DS#1 was born at 24w5d, 1 pound, 14 ounces due to incompetent cervix. He's nearing 3 years old now and doing fabulously. He has a mild speech delay but otherwise is on track developmentally. We're expecting baby number 2 now and hoping for a full term, take home baby!

I saw from your siggy that your baby was born so far from home... I can't imagine how hard that must be. The ladies here have been an incredible support to me throughout our preemie journey.

  • DS was born at 26 weeks 2 Lbs 2 oz. He will be 5 in November and doing amazing! He just started PK and is the same size if not bigger then the other children in his class. He has a speech delay but is getting better with therapy. I am sorry to hear your LO was born so far from home. I hope you are getting support where you are. I wish you the best and your LO!

  • My little girl was born at 26w2d back at the beginning of February.  She's doing really well.  She is getting EI once a week, and she's almost sitting up on her own.  She had ROP and has been off of oxygen for about 1.5 months.  She will be starting the Synagis shots in a few weeks to prevent and/or attenuate RSV.

  • My DD was born at 25w 0d last october and weighed 1lb 7 oz.  She spent 124 days in the NICU and generally had a "typical" course.  PDA, CLD, ROP (no surgery), and trouble getting off of the vent.  She also dealt with some atypical things like a high newborn screening that caused some endocrinology scares, kidney stones, trouble with diuretics, and severe feeding troubles.  She is doing really well now.  She came home off all meds and oxygen and seems to be reaching most milestones on her adjusted schedule.

we have kept a blog if you are interested in reading more ...  www.virginiakkent.blogspot.com  - just keep in mind that we kept the blog pretty basic and positive intentionally

How is your Son doing?  Im sorry that you were/are so far from home.

  • I am not really active on here anymore, but my DD was born at 26 weeks and weighed 1lb 4oz. She spent 16 weeks in the NICU and was born in South Florida the day her daddy was moving us into our new house in Central Texas, 1400 miles away. She had an atypical stay with how smooth it went. Her first 6 weeks were the bumpiest and then she was basically a feeder/grower. She is currently 3 years old and basically has no delays, besides the fact that she is still pretty tiny. Most people don't believe me when I tell them how early she was born and how tiny she was. I am praying that your LO has an easy ride in NICU and I get wanting to talk to other mommies with baby's in similar position as yours because while even one day in the NICU is traumatic, it just isn't the same. Big hugs!
  • My son was born 23w5d at 1lb 6.5 oz.  He's 2 now (almost 27 mos actual/23 adj) and doing really well. You would never know by looking at him of his past struggles - he's 50% for weight for his real age now.  He had many of the typical micropreemie issues while in the hospital - PDA ligation, BPD, (vent for a month, CPAP a month, nasal cannula 2 mos), ROP, NEC scare, lots (and lots, and lots) of A's & B's.  He was in the NICU 147 days, but has been amazingly healthy since then.   He's mostly meeting milestones for his adjusted age - he gets OT every other week.  He had ROP laser surgery in the NICU, and just got glasses at his 2 year follow up appointment.  He takes a nebulizer when needed, but luckily that is just when he has a bad cold.  Let me know if you have any other questions - having a micropreemie is definitely a unique club!

  • My daughter was born at 27 weeks due to severe preeclampsia and HELLP.  She was IUGR and weighed 1 lb 11 oz.  She is on day 77 of her NICU stay.  We were lucky and she did everything easily and quickly...until now.  She is going very slow with feeds.  Once she figures it out, she'll get to come home.
  • So I was born a micro preemie. I'm 25 years old and i'm having a few health problems now. I want to know where I can get some information about it. Please and thank you. If you want to know more about my story just ask.
