Teething help! Teething tablets??

I'm looking for any helpful tips on teething.  My DS is getting his one year molars (I think all at once and maybe even a few incisors.)  Poor guy is just in so much pain.  He is biting his hand non-stop, so much it has a callous :(  We give him frozen teething toys constantly.  We also give him Tylenol and advil some although I can never decide how many days in a row is too much vs him being in pain.

We haven't tried Hylands teething tablets, although natural they make me nervous for some reason.  Any thoughts on these?  Any other helpful ideas or tips would be great! I just hate seeing him in so much pain.

  • We alternated ibuprofen and tylenol for pain. We gave her lots of frozen foods-bananas, grapes cut in half, and frozen yogurt drops. We never tried teething tablets, so no advice there.

  • I was also skeptical about Hylands, but they actually work. I use them now with DS, and it seems to help.

  • I alternate too and then give it a rest for after a day or so and she'll be okay for a few more days.  I can't offer you much for advice on the teething tablets as I have tried them with both of my kids but they've never worked.  My friends have used them for their kids and swear by them.  I still wait for them to kick in one of these times.

  • my SIL recommended the teething tablets. But when i looked them up online i saw they had been recalled a few years ago bc one of the ingredients had poisoned one (or more?) babies. They seem to be back on the market, but i just never felt comfortable using them. (And once I mentioned it to my SIL, she said she prob wouldn't use them either--her kids are older.) You could ask your doctor maybe? We do teething toys and tylenol if he's in obvious pain.
  • I've heard those teething tablets were recalled or something, just fyi

They can be a problem, but only if your baby eats, like, 18,000 of them.  So just a few, and you're good.

  • We're also dealing with this. I haven't tried it yet, but a friend told me that her mom swears by giving a big ol' peeled carrot. Make sure it is big and thick enough that he can't chew through it. Just let him go to town on it. My daughter loves carrots so I may give this a try. For now she seems to prefer chewing on her fingers and sometimes a teething ring/toy. We use Tylenol at night if she has been super fussy through dinner and bath time.
