My 2 year 5 month old wears 2T, my mom bought her some 3T clothes and some of them fit but most of them were too long and gappy. I am going shopping tonight for fall clothes, should I buy all 2T clothes or should I try them all on? I worry that she might grow.
Re: 2T OR 3T
How big is she? I've found DD2 (and DD1 also when she was a toddler) is able to wear both sizes pretty interchangeably. DD1 mostly needed the 3T for length when she turned 2. She was 38" and almost 30 lbs. I just used hand me downs for DD2, and they've all fit fine. She was 36" and almost 31 lbs at 2 years. We have only 3T for her this fall.
You may want to buy 2T for pants and 3T for tops if the pants are too long. A lot of toddlers have a longer torso than legs so have to size down in pants. It will also depend a lot on the brand. For instance, Gymboree runs huge, so we've always been one size bigger in tops than pants.

That is a good idea...2T in the pants and 3T in the shirts...she is 27 lbs and is in the 85 percentile of height. We definately need 2T in the pjs because she was swimming in the 3T pjs in both the tops and bottoms...
This is what we do, especially now that DD is potty trained and not wearing the bulky cloth diapers. Almost all 3T pants fall right off her skinny little behind!
If I can get away with it at all I prefer to go with the bigger size, hoping that it will last until it's time to buy summer clothes again. : )

My daughter is really at a crossroads right now with sizing. This is what I'm doing for the time being...
I'm buying all 3T tops since I don't mind tops being a little big on her. I've bought her several pairs of 3T leggings and jeggings in various colors. Since these are snug fitting around the ankle, it doesn't matter if they're a little long, she can't trip. Plus, they fit snug around the waist as well, so there's no sagging happening, lol!
I have bought her a pair of 2T jeans and a couple pair of 2T yoga style pants, but they will probably only fit her through the Fall weather and not during the winter weather. I plan on getting more 3T pants, if needed, later in the season.
A piece of advice. Go online to the shops where you will be buying and look at their height/weight size charts. Make some notes about the differences in sizes. Also, take along a pair of pants that either currently fit her or are currently too small. Make sure the new pair of pants are slightly longer than the ones that currently fit and/or 1-2 inches longer than the pair that is too short. Look for adjustable waist in jeans and no elastic waist pants. Invest in some leggings and get a cute blue jean skirt with some tights.
She will grow. Pretty sure you can bet on that one.
I would get 3T.
