Ds just had a long run of some illnesses, followed by a bad reaction to his antibiotics, and then bad side effects from the benadryl used to halt the reaction from the other meds! Plus, 4 molars are coming in at once. Needless to say, it's been a rough time here. It seems like after being on benadryl for a few days, he really is extra emotional and can't resettle himself to sleep. And he demands me at all times. Dh and I both work and split everything 50/50, so this is tough. I had to sleep with him in the guest room last night too from 1:30am on since he would not settle when we put him back in the crib or tried leaving him for a bit. He's smart and I am scared that these med related side effects will lead to bad habits, but I don't want him crying all night long (which he always did even when younger if we tried any CIO methods). Is this normal? A phase?? help!
Re: mommy phase and sleep issues at 20 months??
Hopefully its a phase...
For us it is normal after an illness or some teething for him to get extra clingy to mommy during the nights. I do give in on most nights and let him come into our room, but then I have to start all over with getting him to sleep on his own. I usually set up a bed in his room and sleep there for a night or two, then when he gets back into a deeper sleeping pattern, I usually move closer and closer to the door until he starts falling back to sleep on his own.
