Flexible Spending Accounts

In case anyone didn't know, I just found out that breast pumps are covered under the IRS eligible purchases for a flexible spending account. I usually use whatever I have left towards the end of the year to stock up on contacts, but this year's extra money will be spent on a pump. Party!!!

Hey, pretty girl, it feels so right,
Just like it's meant to be
All wrapped up in my arms so tight
Hey, pretty girl, it feels so right
Life's a long and winding ride
Better have the right one by your side
And happiness don't drag its feet
Time moves faster than you think

Re: Flexible Spending Accounts

  • They're actually covered under insurance too! I called my insurance company a couple days ago after a friend with a baby told me about this. Apparently insurance companies are required to cover them under Obamacare. My insurance company confirmed that they'll cover the pump after my deductible. I do need to purchase the pump from a specific place but I'm not concerned about it. This is saving us a LOT of money.

  • I know under insurance we can get up to $100 back, but I didn't realize it counts under FSA!!!  I borrowed my sister's last time, but I'm not sure if she will still be pumping when I have this one, so that's great to know.

FWIW, I bought new tubes and such for the borrowed one.. my kid wasn't drinking my sister's old milk Wink

this isn't just the case with Obamacare, a friend told me about this when she had her 1st in 2006.  She just had her doctor write her a prescription for one, and she'd get the best quality one available for $50.

  • Yes they are. Not all insurances cover them however. Best way to find out is to call up your insurance and ask. Or call a medical supply company and they can tell you whether the insurance does or not. I remember girls doing this last time.
