31 weeks-Shot to prevent preterm labor + Terbutaline

I am 31 weeks pregnant and this has been such an easy pregnancy so far. No morning sickness etc.

I must have overdid things yesterday because as the day went on I had severe enough pressure/pain in my perineum area to call my OB.  She had me go to L&D just as a precaution.  I thought maybe I was over reacting because when I sat it was fine but the second I stood up the pain and pressure was awful.

Come to find out I wasn't over reacting because when the hospital hooked me up to the monitors they saw that I was contracting.  I didn't feel any of the contractions & I was shocked to hear this.  I don't know how far apart they were but I know they came often.

They:

  • had me pee to check for proteins - came back clean
  • did a cotton swab up there - didn't hurt - results came back negative.  I forget the percentages and what they were looking for.  I think it was checking the chances of me delivering with in a certain number of weeks.  Anyways, it came back negative so thats a great thing!
  • checked if I was dilated - was closed :) Let me tell you when they check your cervix to see if you dilated it hurts.  The nurses hand was literally up there.  But I got the results I wanted to I can't complain.

I ended up getting two shots of Terbutaline for preterm labor.  Luckily the contractions stopped and relaxed my uterine muscles.  The side effect I had was my heart raced like having a couple Red Bulls and I felt shaky & a bit jittery.  Those side effect wore off quickly thought.  I was sent home and put of and strict home bed rest until I see my OB this Wed morning.

Today I feel really tired - probably from all the excitement and stress.  I have intense pressure still when I get up to go to the bathroom etc.  I wonder what will happen next.  I hope my OB takes me off bed rest and I can bounce back to my usual self!

  • Yikes. That's a lot of excitement for one day. Hoping you can sail through the next few weeks without any more complications. Update us after your Dr appointment tomorrow. Take care!

  • Well, my OB was put me on modified bed rest & to stay off my feet - only do the necessary thing like shower etc.

It seems to be helping becasue that instense pressure I was feeling is much better.  If I stand for more than 2 minutes I start to feel it again.  So I know keeping off my feet is the best medicine.

I am really sad that I won't be able to go to my cousins wedding in Yosemite this weekend due to the fact that if something happened I would have to be airlifted to Fresno NICU - 1 1/2 hours away.  At first I was going to say screw it - but I know I have to listen to my Drs.  I guess this is the first sacrifice of many to becoming a mom.

  • Very good idea, listening to your doctors. I usually travel around the state with my friend when she goes to pageants, but after this month I'm not going anywhere. At 32+ weeks, I'm not interested in being that far away from my hospital/doctor.
