Who uses them and who doesn't and why? ?We are torn whether or not to give it to her on a regular basis. ?We have done it a few times. ?Sometimes she takes it and sometimes she doesn't.
I would like DD to use one while sleeping at night (SIDS research) and it would be such a lifesaver if she would take it during her fussy time at night, but she hates them and won't use them

at first DS would spit them out right away - lately he does seem to take to them a little better. However, we try to only use the paci when he really can not be soothed with other methods. We don't want to just shove paci in his mouth if a little rocking and bouncing can help calm him.
Sometimes, babies just need to suck (when they're not hungry) and those are the times he seems to really just enjoy the pacifier.
We use one for a bunch of reasons. First, DS likes it. As long as he's not screaming, it works wonders to help calm him down. Also, our pedi said it can help a little with refux. I also read about the SIDS research, and I would prefer my child to have a pacifier rather than sucking on his thumb. It's an easier habit to break.
DS uses it to fall asleep, but doesn't wake himself up when it falls out. He keeps sucking, just on nothing. It's so cute!
We use them and I'm convinced my DC's pacifiers are laced with crack. My girls love them. I like the fact that when we decide to stop using them we can just take them away, instead of them sucking on a finger/thumb.
didn't plan on using them before dd was born, and when we did try, she refused them. and i'm totally happy about that. i feel like the fact that we didn't rely on them helped perfect our skills in being able to pacify her in a variety of ways. every once in a while i'll give her one to chew on because she's teething, but she won't suck it.
Liv uses the soothie brand newborn pacifier but I think she's kind of getting over them. She spits it out a lot more often than she used to. I prefer the pluggie over a finger just because of personal experiences with thumb sucking, but in practice it really helps soothe her because she loves to suck!

My little girl is 3 1/2 weeks old and just likes to suck so we use a paci when she is fussy or if she just needs something to suck and won't eat. I prefer the paci over the thumb or fingers you can take the paci away but you can't take fingers away. Studies now show that sucking a paci isn't as bad for your teeth either where as your fingers can be bad for you teeth later. I also had a personal experience with finger sucking and had braces 2 times to fix the very bad teeth.
Re: pacifiers??
we were also torn about pacifiers.
