IUD and nausea

Not sure if the two are related, but wondering if anyone has morning sickness symptoms and also have an IUD?  I took a pregnancy test and it came out negative.  Perhaps it is the release of hormones?  Will get it checked out if it persists.

Re: IUD and nausea

  • What kind of IUD do you have? I was on the Mirena before and never had any nausea from it. The Mirena is low-dose hormones though.

  • I had the Mirena and experienced Nausea once in a great while. Not very often and when I did it wasn't as bad as morning sickness but enough to feel it in the pit of my stomach. The last bout of it was about 2 weeks before I had my Mirena out. I felt a bit of nausea one night, not enough to get fully sick but enough to not want to eat dinner. Then it went away, then the next day it returned around lunch time, went away with a few hours... Hasn't returned since and well now my Mirena is out. Possible it could have been the hormones in the IUD?
  • Nausea alone can happen (rare) but are you having any other abdomonal pains associated with the nausea?  When did you have the IUD placed?  There is a risk of infection that can present that way with the placement of the IUD.  If you have a fever or the pain increases in your abdomen I would call your doctor.
