Can teething result in wakefulness?

My 16 month old has been chewing her hands terribly.

She has also been INCREDIBLY clingy for over a week.

She went from a great sleeper to waking in the middle of the night EVER SINGLE NIGHT, at different times, crying - I let her cry a few minutes to see if she will resettle, which she tries to do but just can't manage.

I've been going to her, changing her, and rocking her - sometimes, not all times, giving her tylenol. She does go back to sleep MOST nights easily.

Could this be due to teething? Could this be due to separation anxiety? Obvioulsy my LO is not your child but anyone have a similar experience?

Re: Can teething result in wakefulness?

  • My LO is 13 months and I posted almost the exact same post earlier this morning. LO started STTN at 2 months and in the past month he wakes up 1-2 times - not every night- but probably half nights. It doesn't take much to get him to go back down. Twice he has been crying really hard and I give him Tylenol and DH's cell phone and within about 10 minutes he's out. I'm debating giving Tylenol before bed tonight. I really try not to give any meds if it isn't necessary. Sorry this isn't very helpful- but you're not alone!

  • Yes, teething can be very painful for them so it will cause them to wake up. Does your LO have their molars yet? If not, these could be coming in and are some of the more painful teeth to push through. My 16 mo. old is slowly getting them in and it's been a PITA for everyone!
