Anterior Placenta and C-Section

At my level II ultrasound, the doctor informed me that I had an anterior placenta.  She checked to make sure that it had not attached to my scar tissue from my previous  c-section.  All looked good in that regard.  However, I am curious now...does anyone know if there are any complications associated with having an anterior placenta and a c-section?

  • I've never had any complications. This is my 4th PG with an anterior placenta, and my 4th c-section. I heal well and have very little scar tissue. My OB did tell me that it was really out of the ordinary to have an anterior placenta with all 4 of my PG.......

  • I didn't have any complications- I had one anterior and one posterior.
  • Yes. You're at increased risk for placenta accreta if you had a prior c/s and now have an anterior placenta. It usually occurs with a placenta previa, but it doesn't have to. An ultrasound by a trained sonography, usually an mfm, can rule this out. If there's any doubt, they'll send you for an MRI. Don't worry about it unless you have a concrete diagnosis. Or else you'll just freak out and worry.
