Curious

So I was curious, after seeing the post yesterday about when women went into labor, who had hit the 24 pounds in 24 weeks mark. I wanted to see informally if you could tie the two together since hitting that weight gain is supposed to prevent PTL. So I want to know if you hit that mark AND whether you had PTL! : D Thanks!

Re: Curious

  • I gained 20 pounds in 20 weeks and didn't gain anymore for the next 12 weeks.  Also, I started having PTL at 27 weeks. It didn't save me from PTL, but I did have 2 very healthy, good sized babies.  :)

  • I don't think it prevents preterm labor, I think it's more that you want to help your babies pack on the pounds earlier on, in case of preterm labor. But I could be wrong...

  • I haven't had my babies yet, but I'm 35 weeks 3 days and haven't had any PTL and am going strong. I didn't hit 24lbs gained until 32-33 weeks (I think I'd gained about 14 - 16lbs by 24 weeks; my memory is foggy). I'm now at 27lbs gained.

  • My doctor had said it does help prevent.

I also found this link talking about it  https://www.americanpregnancy.org/multiples/weightgain.html

I have only gained 12 pounds so far at 21 weeks, so I do not think I will be hitting this mark. I am trying to gain steadily though, so fingers crossed for no PTL!

  • I was of average build before becoming pregnant and only gained 27 lbs my entire pregnancy, No PTL. I delivered two 6lb 6oz babies at 37w1d. Maybe I just got lucky?

  • I did not hit 20lbs by 20w or 24 by24w, and have experienced PTL (have been on procardia,p17,bed rest, and admitted several times). However, it's looking like I will make it to my scheduled C/S next week and the girls are estimated to be right at 6 lbs by that point.
  • I did not gain 20lb by 20w or 24lb by 24w. I had zero signs of PTL. I delivered via induction turned c-section (due to mild pre-e) at exactly 37w.

  • I met this weight goals- had no PTL- but did have high BP developing into Pre-e.  Resulting in a c-section at 34w 3d- but my boys were 5lb 3oz and 5lb 4oz.  They spent 17 days in the NICU- to learn to eat.  They had no breathing issues.
  • I was up 40lbs when I delivered at 29w. I started with a BMI off 22.

I agree.  I don't think gaining X amount of weight can help prevent PTL.  I didn't have PTL but did deliver at 28 wks and was at least +24lbs and 24 wks.  I had gained 45 lbs by the time I delivered and one was still IUGR/SGA.

  • I gained 25 by 25w, did not have PTL. Never went into labor at all, had a CS at nearly 35w for pre-e.
