We have a great friend and her new daughter staying with us because the interstate compact has not been filed in her home state yet. She was able to leave AZ and fly back to VA with the baby until DC files her paperwork. She told me to be aware of this little gem that caused a bit of a problem:
As she and her husband were flying to AZ to pick up their daughter, they had to bring along the car seat and stroller. The airline, who does not usually charge for these items, charged this couple because they had no baby to go in them! They explained to the woman at the airline counter and the manager and neither would waive the fees because they said, "these items are not necessary for you."
When my friends flew back, on the same airline, yesterday, there was no charge for the car seat and stroller because they had a baby to put in them.
Ah, the little joys no one tells you about. Friends are furious and writing to the airline. Be aware, if you have to fly and already have a car seat, you'll probably get charged for it if you do not have a baby to put in it.
Re: Interesting tidbit from a fellow AP
Will find out the airline. I'm disgusted, especially since this was a flight purchased same day. They were already paying through the nose to get from DC to AZ on the next flight that had room.
If this had been my friends' first child, they probably would have waited to buy the car seat once in AZ. However, they have 2 children already and had the car seat ready to go. So much for being prepared.
We have a car seat we got from family to use for exactly this purpose. It makes me wonder if we'll have to go through the same thing when the time comes. UGH!
