Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Flying with an 11 mo old...Need advice.

Hi everyone!

It's been forever since I have been on here, so if this was asked a million times I am sorry!!  :)  Is there any tips on traveling with a baby who is so squirmy and likes to move around?  I am thinking of bringing toys that she hasn't seen yet, but if there is anything else, please tell me!  We are travelling in the plane for about 2 hrs and we will be holding her on our lap.  I wished that I would of gotten her a seat, but at that time frame when I ordered our tickets she was only 3 months old and not really thinking ahead.  :/ TIA.

  • We just flew with our 10 month old last weekend. It went really well. I did buy him some new toys (not loud ones).  He enjoyed them...he also liked looking out the window.  Our first flight was around bedtime, so he slept the last hour.  He enjoyed looking at all the people, eating snacks.  Make sure you bring a pacifier or bottle for her ears during take off and landing.

  • I just flew with my 11 month old...it was rough!  We had the window seat, but because it was just the two of us, there was a stranger in the middle seat.  My LO kept trying to grab his computer, his phone, etc.  New toys are great, also my LO loves to play with the little bags of peanuts they give out on Southwest.  Bring snacks too...we had puffs, yogurt drops and fruit.  Distraction is key!

If you can, sit next to someone that loves babies (if you're not flying Southwest, you probably don't have a choice).  I've had both and when we're next to someone that enjoys babies (plays, talks to him, etc), it's a much smoother ride.

    Good luck!

  • Lots of snacks! New stuff - doesn't even have to be a toy. I'll grab things like combs  or ribbons or other interesting household items.

  • We flew when DD was 10 months.  She seemed to enjoy trying to pull everything out of the seat back (magazines, bark bag, etc).  She also liked looking through the magazines (ie tearing out the pages).  She also enjoyed looking at the strangers around her, just staring at them and trying to figure them out.  She can get squirmy, but I flew with my hubby and we just traded out.  For the most part, though, she slept.  I guess we were lucky in that aspect.
  • In addition to what everyone else said, we let her go nuts ripping up the pages in SkyMall.  It worked great until she decided to eat the scraps she ripped up.
