I don't think I ever posted this here. If I did then I apologize in advance. Dh and I having a hard time with names. We will find out the sex in a few weeks, in the mean time, we both like the name Collins for a girl. I know it's a family surname, but it has no family relation to either of us.
Is it a weird name for a girl?
What do you think for a MN? I'm liking Collins elizabeth. Last name is smith, which I'm not thrilled about what it is what it is.
Re: Collins?
Actually, I think it's kinda weird regardless and not remotely feminine, but if it was a family surname it would escape the side eye from me. When I hear it, I just think of Phil.
I get why it would be weird. I found the name on baby name wizard. I really like Emerson Kate and Collins was listed as a sibling name for Emerson. Dh isn't a fan of Emerson, but we both like Collins. It was also the name of the daughter in the movie the blind side.
What's so wrong with a GIRL'S NAME for a little girl?
This. How about Colleen, Adair, Blaire, Brynn, Camille, Leighton, Nadine, Teagan?

Surprise BFP naturally!!! IT'S A BOY!!!
This exactly. People would assume a family tie and might be awkward when she has to explain you got it from Blind Side...(kidding)
Perhaps it's back to the drawing board...
The first thing I thought of was a show I used to watch called Dark Shadows. One of the characters names was Elizabeth Collins. It's not a bad association...just the first thing I thought of.
I'm not big on surnames as FN. I hope to use an old family surname but I would still use it in the MN spot.
I like Elizabeth enough. It has many nn options (Betty, Libby, Elsie, Eliza, ect.)
Like others have said, I couldn't fault it if it were a family name (even though I don't like it) but since its not, it's a weird thing to name a little girl - or a boy for that matter.
Anybody else think of "Collins will recount his exploits as 'anarchist' including the tale of his successful reprogramming of the MIT virtual reality equipment to self destruct as it broadcast the words - Actual Reality, Act Up, Fight AIDS!" from Rent?
I agree. Since Collins and Smith run together your future LO may be confused for a boy named Collin all the time. I think there are a lot of unique and feminine names out there for you to use with the LN Smith.

Personally, I love Collins....We too have chosen a Sur name for our girl, Rossi. Collins sounds classic and I don't think you need any ties to a name if it is what you and hubby like.
My name is Nicole and I can't think of anyone who calls me that. Its usally Nic and a long time ago my mother called me Nicholas with a few Nikki here and there. At work I am called by my last name, which is the normal for my type of job.Good thing we have a long way to go.
I like it!
