nonBF, what school clothes for Art class

DS has his 3rd day of Kindergarten tomorrow, he will have Art class for the first time. Should I assume he should wear something that is not his nice polo shirts or is it safe to assume they will not do something nonwashable the first week of Art in Kindergarten?

  • Ds2 just started kindergarden too. He's been to art 3x. He hasn't came home any dirtier. He told me they have aprons.

  • Typically, they have aprons if they are doing anything like painting, ect. I've never had any school clothes come home ruined from Art.

  • We just had our first day of art class for preschool. I sent him in jean shorts and a graphic tee just in case. He came back with a little paint on his arm, but his clothes were clean. Even if my SS(4) were to wear an apron I'd be worried he would still try to wipe his hands on his clothes. I'd rather be safe than end up with nice clothes getting ruined.

Hope his first day of art was lots of fun!

  • Honestly, I wouldn't ever send my kid to kindergarten in nice clothes. Expect every outfit you send them to in school to potentially be filthy when they return home. Most stuff they use in the classroom, even in art, is washable, but seriously, those kids come home messy.

My ds was in kinder last year. I speak from experience :)

This is so new for me because DS is very neat and in his Montessori preschool he rarely ever got dirty but I have a feeling you are right.

My ds was always pretty neat. And then he decided to paint his face to see how it would look :)

I tend to stock up on the end of season sales at Old Navy and Crazy 8. I don't feel bad if a $5 shirt gets thrashed.
