Thinking ahead to Xmas

This is our first Xmas with DD. I am wondering if it is customary to give our DCP's Xmas bonuses? We absolutely love this place. It's a mother and daughter team who have a licensed DC at their home. They take really good care of the kids and DD always comes and goes smiling from ear to ear. We currently pay $650 a month for 4 days a week and will go to 5 days in January for $775 a month. In our area that is really reasonable as most larger centers charge at least $1000.

 Any thoughts?

  • I never did, but I always went throught a center.  I might consider it for a home daycare.

  • I also love my DCP too.  She is awesome with DD.  I hadn't thought about a bonus but I did get her a gift.

  • What kind of gift did you get? I was thinking of either cash or a Macy's gift card (both love shopping).
  • I asked a acquaintance who works at DS daycare, what parents usually give. She said a $20 gift card to target or barnes & nobles would be loved by the teachers - since they have more soap and candles than they could use. That seems a little low to me, so I'm thinking I'll give a $50 gift card and something small (fuzzy socks, cookies or candy).
  • I will give her two main teachers (they are split morning and afternoons) gift cards and bake a batch of cookies for all of the staff to share, since I know sometimes she hangs out in the 2s room rather than the toddler room, etc.

  • My DS is in a licensed in-home daycare as well.  We plan on giving a gift card to Target, where she can buy whatever she wants.  I didn't do anything at the centers he used to go to.  Good luck!

  • we're at a center, not a home, and DD had 5 teachers in the infant room. We gave them $40 cash and a card that we tried to personalize for each, telling them how much we appreciated what they did and how wonderful we thought they were.

It went over really well - they kept thanking us for a long time. I think they got a lot of candles and knick knacks, and cash is appreciated by everyone around the holidays.

  • I bought her a sweatshirt that says "Hands down our babysitter is the best"  and it has handprints on it with each of the kids at the day cares names.

DD goes to a home daycare.

  • We gave DD's teachers GCs for Christmas.  Her teachers in her new room will also get GCs this Christmas.  It's not a lot quite frankly but it's just a little something to say thank you for your hard work throughout the year.  Tax free of course...

  • I've been thinking about this, too, and wondering how to do it.  DS goes to a center and has different teachers based on the day and the schedule.  I'm still not sure - I don't want to leave anyone out, or short them by spreading it so thin.
  • For our in home provider, we gave her $100 cash in a card.  I feel the same way about her and am very grateful for her.

This year my older daughter is in a preschool/daycare center 3 days a week with a lot of teachers I will probably do something much smaller like 10 dollar starbucks cards and cookies etc.

  • Last year for Christmas I gave our in-home daycare provider one weeks extra pay as a separate bonus ($150).  I will do the same this year and every year that we use her.  She takes great care of DD and I feel like this is really a small bonus for what she is doing every day.

  • DD goes to an in home daycare - we are planning on doing a Visa GC so that she can use it anywhere.
