NonBF. scooter ?

When did your kid start riding a razortype scooter and when did they become good at it? We got DS and DD Razors this summer, DS is decent and DD is ok but they are a long way from good or from being able go for a real ride on them more than halfway down the street. I really wanted to get them Mini Kick scooters or Maxi for DS but they are so expensive and the kids were so thrilled in the store with the Razors and the store did not sell anything from Kickboard USA so we bought them. I am still second guessing if I should suck it up and at least get DD a Mini Kick and save the Razor for when she is older or I just need to give it more time. Oh, and FWIW every kid we saw in London had a Mini Kick called Micro there and they were literally rising them all over the city, imagine 2 and 3yos on a scooter instead of stroller.

  • My mom bought the 4 older kids Razors for Christmas one year. I think youngest SS was 4 at the time so DD (who is the oldest) was about 8. She and SD picked up on it fairly quickly but the boys took about a year before they were really any good at them. Of course, they were only riding them when they were at our house though so, I think it would have taken them less time if they lived with us FT.

  • My SS is a freak of nature, and when he was 2 he was jumping off of curbs on to the street with his Razr scooter. (and he wasn't an old 2, he literally turned 2 the month I met him). My DD? She is 27 months old, and won't even touch the scooter. It is a developmental thing, and they will get the hang of it. I don't know what a mini kick is (terrible mom? lol). Is it motorized? If she seems to enjoy the scooter she has and just has to work on getting better at it, I wouldn't sweat buying the more expensive one if she isn't complaining. I dunno. That's so tough. I hate making decisions like that.

Krissy, they are not real popular here although I did see a few in Boston but are HUGE in London and other cities, I am not kidding when I say every single kid I saw walking in London ages 27 had one, it was almost freakish. They look really easy to learn and cannot be compared to the cheap 3 wheel scooters I see in Toys R Us.

  • SD is 6 and brags that she knows how to ride a 2 wheel scooter at BM's house.  we have never seen it.  we have a cheapo 3 wheel scooter here and she has issues with it, but only rides it once every few months.

  • My dd is 6. At age 3 she got one of the three wheel scooters. She "got it" but the scooter was cheap and the wheels moved slow. At age 4ish she got a razor type and would do it here and there but didn't har great balance. She only rides here and there but she was over 5 before she really got the concept and balance. She will prob never ride one again two weeks ago she hit a bump, fell off and landed in the grass but just so that she broke both bones in one forearm. Extremely painful and she will be in a cast for months she has sworn off scooters forever, but it was really just a freak accident!

Your poor little girl!  I hope she heals up quickly and gains her confidence back.
