C-sections

Planning the CS post-op from ovary removal

I had my right ovary removed last week, by laparotomy. The recovery is much more painful than I'd expected/hoped, as the incision is a vertical cut from my pelvis to my belly button. I'm currently pregnant with twins, so our chances of a vaginal delivery with them is already very slim. My surgeon recommended that they use the same incision site (i.e. longitudinal/vertical) for doing a CS. I'm wondering whether the more common transverse/bikini cut would make for an easier healing session than the vertical. I feel like I have no abdominal support with my current incision. I am only 5 days post op, but I've spent all of that on heavy bed rest and I am growing impatient with the pain from sneezes/coughing/moving.

Does anyone have experience with *both* types of CS who could give input on the pros and cons of each?

  • I don't have any experience with the vertical cut that you had but I can tell you that I felt the same way you do now after my c. I felt like I had no stomach support at all, couldn't laugh, sneeze or cough without extreme pain and actually had problems standing up straight for about a week.
