What do you think of (girl name)

Matilda Irene

DH and I had Matilda Jane as our #1 girl name.  I just asked my mom about family names and learned that my great-great grandmother (who I knew) and my great-grandmother (who is currently battling cancer) both have the MN Irene.  It's not a name that was on my list, but I think it sounds nice with Matilda and I do love actress Irene Dunne!  I'd love to honour my grandmothers in this way.  WDYT of the combination?

I love Matilda and Irene makes a nice, but different middle name that can stand on it's own if your daughter prefers it years later.

It's a nice name. I have an aunt named Irene and she's so sweet so I only have a positive feelings towards the name.

I think Matilda Irene is nice for the family connection but also really like Matilda Jane

I don't like either name (just NMS), but I do think it flows very well and has a nice connection to your family, so I say go for it!

I find it really tacky to insult the name I'm considering to honour my recently passed great-great grandmother and my dying great-grandmother.  I'm just asking if the name flows well.  Also, Bertha was the name of my other great-grandmother, who also recently passed.

I love the combo! Irene is one of my very favorite names, we used it for DD's MN. You probably already know this but it means 'peace' in Greek. Matilda is adorable for a little girl but also a name she can grow into.

Sorry, I should have clarified. That was in response to Matilda, which as I understand is not your grandmothers' name, so fair game, no? Irene is actually on my list for a fn. And yeah, I didn't answer your question but I dislike Matilda. Also, it's unfair to bring up your granny Bertha when it was not in the OP.

Sure, Matilda is fair game.  That's been decided, but I understand it isn't everyone's style.   And you brought up the name Bertha when it wasn't in the OP, so I don't think I was unfair there.

I L.O.V.E. Love Matilda (NN Tilde) Not a huge fan of Irene, but I am a huge fan of family names, especially in the MN spot. I'd go for it!

Thanks for the input, everyone!  I proposed the name to DH thinking he'd hate Irene and shoot it down immediately, but he said he liked it even before I shared the family connection!
