Care Package Ideas

Hi ladies! I don't post here that often, but I thought you might be able to help me come up with some ideas. My H is getting ready to deploy in a few days and I want to get his first care package out pretty soon.

I want to do a "Deployment Survival" theme. I have a few ideas, but not enough to fill a box. I've Googled and mostly come up with ideas for military spouse survival kits, not for the deploying spouse. So, what are some things that you think would be great to send to him?

TIA for any ideas you may have! :)

Re: Care Package Ideas

  • I just sent my first care package today. It had a puzzle and a word find puzzle to give him something to do, a box of Kleenex, a couple of pictures of us, Cliff Bars (out of the box), and some powder drink mix that he wanted. I also snuck a card into one of his bags and he found it when he unpacked.
  • Mad Libs. DH said they were making up their own, so I found some (at Old Navy, oddly enough) and sent those.

I also sent some Buffalo Wild Wings sauce because the food where he was needed a little help in the flavor department.

Other than that, I sent typical stuff like pictures. He didn't want/need a lot.

Mad Libs! I didn't even think of that! Good one!

  • DH always asked for things like unscented baby wipes, Q-Tips (useful for weapon cleaning I'm told), lens cleaning wipes, air fresheners, candy, individual packets of drink mix, books, letters and pictures.

  • My hubby couldn't get enough f the single serving drink packets. He drank so much water, it was a nice change. I also had some boudoir photos taken and sent an album of soft naughtiness. Favorite or hard to find out there candy. It's sweet to send things that smell like home. He also said he liked getting newspaper comics and magazines. Later on in his deployment I also sent a few dirty magazines but for some people that may not be fitting for their relationship.
  • I sent DH pictures of the kids (espescially our new one!) books, and magazines.

  • For a survival kit, I'd definitely include air fresheners, One year I sent one for every season, found some football ones at the dollar store, he was glad he got them because he said it smelled horrible over there. I also made him a pillow case, again his favorite football team. It was football season so I went all out. try to hit up the dollar store and get some small games, or I did digital poker and other handheld games, that were inexpensive if they got destroyed it was no biggie. Include some of his favorite cookies, candy, chips etc. and stuff to remind him of you. Letters cards and pictures.
  • Water balloons or dollar store squirt guns. My DH took up reading over there (weird) so I was always trying to find books that he'd like to read. I mostly just tried to send his favorite things, always lots of the single drink packets. This may have been mentioned but dryer sheets; they put them in their sea bags, footlockers, boots, everything and it keeps things smelling *mostly* fresh.

  • Cake in a jar.  Google it, it's awesome.  DH loved it.  Send it with a tub of frosting.

My DH really liked myoplex, you can get it in individual packets.

    Handmade cards, handwritten letters.
