I co-sleep and nurse pretty regularly through the day/night (when not at work), and just got my first post-partum period after 15 months last month. I know that medically it can take a few cycles for everything to sort itself out, but I was wondering what people's experience has been with post-partum periods, particularly while still nursing a toddler. Once you got one period, did they start up regularly? Or did it take a while to regulate? Did anyone then skip a few cycles before beginning back up again? I am mostly curious, but also thinking about TTC in the next year or two and trying to figure out how reliable charting will be.
Thanks ladies!
Re: Post-partum Menses
My PP AF came back at 7mos even though DD continued to nurse around the clock for quite some time. My periods seemed fairly regular but because of charting I knew I didn't ovulate the first three cycles and then my LP was very short. I was having 28 day cycles but only ovulating 4 to 7 days before AF would show.
Currently going through our second deployment. Can't wait for Zoe to meet her daddy!
Your cycle doesn't have to be regular for charting to be reliable. That's th beauty of charting - you're not just counting days and assuming you'll ovulate at the same time every month.
I'm still nursing, just in the evening and before bed because I work long hours. My periods started again when DD was almost 10 months old. Iirc, for my first one or two cycles my luteal phase was ridiculously short, like 3 days. Things have been regular since then.
