Rolling: back to front. Help!

OK, so LO has been "working hard" at rolling from back to front for the last few weeks...and earlier this week, in the middle of the night, we watched him do it on the monitor!  Every night since then, he's done it again...as well as during naptime at daycare.  Thankfully, he's been making noise each time, so we've been able to get up and roll him back to his back, because he hasn't figured out how to do that yet.

But, I'm freaked out that he's going to roll over and not be able to roll back around and not make any noise to wake us up.  Is he old enough where he'll cry now if that happens and wake us?  What do people do in this situation?  I can't sleep!

Thanks...

Re: Rolling: back to front. Help!

  • my LO makes all kinds of fussing noises and eventually cries if she can't get back over.  Now that she's been doing it for a week or two, she has begun sleeping on her belly.  We went into flip her a dozen times the other night.  On the last time (i was watching on the video monitor) my husband hadn't even gotten his hand out of the crib before she rolled right back to her belly.  Her head and neck are strong enough now that I don't worry *too* much.

  • I heard that at this point it is ok for them to sleep on their bellies if they can roll over.  My pedi mentioned at our four month appointment that you should still put him on his back, but if he flips to his belly on his own, that is fine.  By now they have enough neck strength to turn their head if needed.

  • Thank you, all.  This is what I wanted to believe, but needed confirmation.  Not saying I'm going to sleep super peacefully, but I'm going to bed feeling a little better!

    This.

I was a nervous wreck when Jack started doing it.  I still put his Snuza on him so that makes me feel a little better (I just tape it to the side of his diaper).  He'll cry to alert you if he's stuck.
