New to this board.. Intro :)

My husband and I just found out that baby number 2 will be babies number 2 and 3 when we went in for an elective ultrasound to find out the gender.  We were totally shocked!  My older son will be turning 2 right around the time the twins are expected.  The shock is still wearing off and I don't even know where to start to prepare.

Do any of you have good advice?  I've been trying to do a little research on my own to see what we need two of.  I think I'm accumulating a pretty good list.  Other than that I just feel kind of overwhelmed.  Encouragement is ok too.. :)

  • No advice, but we're in the same boat.  An almost 3 year old boy and two babies on the way.  :)

    Same dates too practically!

  • Congratulations! No advice yet but I am in the same boat. My DD is 19 months and the girls will be here in 2 weeks.

  • Congrats! So far my best advice is don't expect them to share. We got one crib, thank MIL!, because everyone said they could share for a while. Yeah, not my kids. Now that they each have their own cribs they are making progress, however I am not sure how long they will be sharing a room. So far the only thing they willingly share is the stroller, and they tolerate the play mat together. Just be prepared that your babies could be out of the norm like mine and you need double of things you thought you wouldn't.

  • Thank you!  How long does it take the news to sink in?  I'm guessing it probably helps as you get more "prepared" for their arrival.

  • congrats and welcome!  I'm still getting used to the idea of twins.  We found out at our 20 week u/s.

  • Congratulations and welcome!  I was definitely shocked to find out that our first baby was actually our first babies!  I don't think the shock really wore off for me until after the babies were born.  There are still days I look at them and say, "I can't believe I had twins!"

  • Welcome and congrats! We're in similar situations-- I'm due in a couple of weeks with our 2nd and 3rd LOs, and DS turned two in July. We were completely blindsided by our twins at an early u/s (7w5d), and there are some days where I'm still amazed that we're having two babies! I think it will take a few years for the reality to sink in :)  GL!
