My sports vent - non BF related

Having a kid in sports is so much work!  Daily practice, for one, different practice schedule for the other, both ending at LO's bedtime.  Tomorrow night our eldest is expected to attend the h.s. football game, which will end way late, and then we have to have him on the field at 8am Saturday morning.  DH is out of town.

I know sports causes conflicts in BF's with weekend visitation and everything, so I can't imagine that added stress.

I can remember telling one poster to suck it up who was complaining about taking kids to sports she didn't sign them up for, and I don't know if I was properly empathetic.  It's rough.  Great for them, but, I can't wait for it to be over and they haven't even had their first game.

  • I hope you have your Taxi light ready for the top of your car and your chauffeur hat ready!!  Getting kids around to sports, activities and schools wears people out.  The Fall is always the hardest at my house, and we basically survive on Crock-Pot recipes until about November.  With 2 schools to go to, Karate twice a week, Cheer 3 times a week, football 3 times a week, tumbling once a week, and the majority of Saturdays spent at 2 separate fields, our entire family cannot wait for lazy Sundays.

It does eventually get easier.  Either it's easier or you just become so used it that it doesn't hurt anymore...

  • I'm with you there.

DS did swim over the summer. Two daily practices. Two meets every week running from 4:45 until almost 9pm. I was SO GLAD when it was done!

I have many years as a soccer mom under my belt.  I think it's just the h.s. football attendance requirement that's getting to me right now, plus the 8am start time.  I never endured anything that brutal as a soccer mom, and we play in the rain and snow.

Oh man, High School is hard.  I remember my mom being so frazzled and worn out while I was doing volleyball and yearbook.  Kids just don't get how hard it is on the parents too.

He's not going to play, just to watch.  They use the same plays, so the coach wants them to see the plays in action.  I almost emailed him that this was a lot to ask of the parents, but I'm whining on here instead.

  • This is our first break in years from sports. None of the kids signed up for fall sports. I'm still shocked. We usually have football, baseball and softball all going on at once. One year we had all that plus DS & DD in swimming. It was madness! I need a break badly because of my own hectic schedule with work and school. We just have the girls in band and girl scouts right now.

  • I was on here whining about sports about a year ago, but I think every family involved in sports needs to whine once in a while.  it really is a lot.  hopefully you guys have a relaxing weekend after practice saturday

  • SS has done soccer and 2 seasons of Baseball. ALL 3 I have had a newborn to lug around. BM never does anything with sports so it's always us, and when DH is/was out of town, it's all left on my shoulders. Now that DS is past the 1 yr mark I think it will be easier, but the past 2 yrs have been so rough. I'm sort of dreading baseball season in the spring. I just don't even want to participate at this point. I know he loves it... I just don't know if I have it in me. bla. I feel your pain. it's hard. It's even worse when you open a bag and don't have a glove/shoe/pad in there and they say 'oh yea, I think my mom took it out. I don't know where it is' and the other parent is no where to be found because they can't be bothered to get off their a$$ to attend a game. Ok sorry, I'm rambling now... grrrrr...

  • KC, congrats on 95!

And, that would have made me rip my hair out if it were more than just me who fouled up their sports bags ...
