DS was diagnosed with congenital hypothyroidism and has been doing pretty good on his med dose until lat apt (at almost 8 mo of age) his blood test for TSH levels were SO HIGH at 18.8 (supposed to be around 0.5) no wonder he has been so off! Endocrinologist says it is normal for it to go up like that when he starts to grow out of old medication dose. Any one else experience this? And what signs do you look for? I thought his added fussiness was due to travel and teething, but prob due to just him feeling pretty darn crappy!
Re: Congenital hypothyroidism-anyone?
Hi,
My son has been on synthroid since 14 months. His dose has increased 2x (he will be 3 next month). We see our endo every 4-6 months, after blood tests, and the dr has told me that the dosage increase is to be expected since DS is growing.
I have never noticed any signs in between appts. How long do you go between appts? Did DS's growth slow down?
We just increased synthroid in July, but the endo didn't see much of a change in the numbers (we went from 25 mg to 37.5 mg. He didn't start on it until he was about 6 months old, and this was our first dose increase (at 22 months old).
We are going back in a few weeks (rather than our every 4 months) since she wants to recheck his levels to see how he responds to the new dose.
I haven't noticed any obvious signs though...
