I spoke with the genetic counselor this morning. At this point, the autopsy on the baby came back with no problems. He was a healthy baby. The umbilical cord was not coiled normally and was very thin. The placenta was small and chunky. This makes the geneticists believe it was a problem with those - not Baby. The original chromosome test on the placenta came back with no answers.
We were given two choices - additional testing (50 percent chance that it'd come back with nothing, and if it did come back with a chromosomal issue in the placenta, there would only be a 1 percent chance of it repeating itself) or declining additional testing. Testing was not covered by insurance, plus, it would not guarantee anything for the future. We declined.
The baby was cremated shortly after we made the decision and I picked up his remains about 10 minutes ago.
Now it is time to find peace - somehow - and begin the process of healing and moving forward.

Baby Boy born sleeping at 20 weeks.
Re: Autopsy results and picked up ashes - quite the day.
I know it can be hard to not have a solid answer. I think it's human nature to look for reasons and causes, and when we don't have them it kind of leaves things open.
I think it's nice that you can have the ashes. I hope you can find some peace and the healing will come.
