ASD moving to Houston - Any advice appreciated!

Hi all,

I used to post from time to time but haven't been around in awhile.

My 6 year old son is ASD, he's in a mainstreamed 1st grade.  We are moving to Houston and I was hoping someone may have some advice regarding schools and private speech therapy.  We are coming from an excellent district in IL and all I know about Houston is the little I could find online.  We are leaning towards Fort Bend ISD, anyone have any experiences?  Also any recs for private speech therapy?

Thanks!

  • Thanks Auntie.  I had found Monarch but it is way out of our price range and I was really hoping the public schools would work out.

A good public program is probably a better placement, but Monarch offers things like speech and social skills groups to kids who attend elsewhere.

Thank you!  I hadn't thought of them for that.

  • Sorry so late to reply, but if you are moving to Houston Spring Branch ISD has a fabulous reputation for their programs for ASD kids. Katy ISD is supposed to be really good, but it all depends on the school and the teachers.

Westview School is a private school for only high functioning ASD kids. We toured the place and really liked it but now that our son is in ABA full time, we are holding off on deciding what to do as far as school is concerned for now.

NTS has a good reputation for private therapy. https://www.ntstherapy.com/

I have lived in Houston almost all my life, so feel free to pm me if you have any questions.
