Any ideas?

I need to block off the underneath of the coffee table. Our tv sits on a coffee table and it's the kind with the baskets underneath. Like the picture. I need to figure out how to block off the gap because it's against the wall and with our rug set up, it's almost impossible to reach some of the stuff under the coffee table and we can't really move the coffee table without a whole lot of trouble. Does anyone have any ideas for how to block it off?

ETA: I clarified it below. I'm sorry that it's so badly worded.

Please don't take offense to this, but I read your post twice, and I still have no idea what you're asking.

Why do you need to get anything underneath the table? Isn't that where all the cords are etc?

  • Loading the player...
  • Don't try blocking it off, it won't make it so things won't get stuck, just harder to get out. I have this problem, it was easier just to use a broom to knock everything out from underneath. It's a game for my kids, couch fishing.
  • Do LO's toys get under there & it's difficult for you to retrieve them?  That's what I'm assuming.

Get some thin, maybe 1"x(whatever height) wooden boards, paint them the same color as your table & affix them to the bottom somehow.  If you do it carefully you could probably even remove them at some point.

How big is the space?  Are there any bins you could place under there?

Or, (I think this is an even better idea) find something that is just tall enough to fit under there that is about 3-4 inches shorter on all sides than your table.  That way whatever goes underneath is only a hand's length away.

ETA: PP's broom fishing is the easiest solution.  Ignore all of my suggestions...especially the first one.  Way too much work & I don't think it would look that great anyway.

I'm glad it's not just me.  I am totally confused.

But the pool noodle bits. Noooooo!! Yeah, that was tried here, they reached under and picked at it. So did the effing cat.

Also better that a broomstick, a child size hockey stick. The blade makes it better.

  • Yeah sorry that was really badly worded. We have the coffee table pushed against the wall and it's blocked on 3 of the sides. Because of the rug, we can't really move it out. Our rug has carpet padding underneath and that's a whole other mess of loose fluff particles. Right now, I use the vacuum hose or the broom handle, but even with that, it's not easy. Her favourite game is to shove water bottles and anything else she can fit under there as well.

My husband also suggested the pool noodle, but the cats and Z would totally pick pieces off of it. I was thinking small boards, but we may just need to completely rearrange the furniture.

It drives me freaking nuts. I just got all the pool noodle bits out of the house, and now they've decided that the carpet looks better with Special K. I have one room left. This time it's on DH, I was not home. He just thought they were playing quietly. Ugh.
