Not to scare you, but IT HURTS ! ! ! I have a high pain tolerance, and I think it's the worst pain I've felt. I don't think everyone's experience is like mine though, some people say it wasn't painful at all. Mine got off to a bad start by the Dr. pinching me with the speculum......it all went downhill from there. Good Luck.
It hurt me like hell too. Maybe b/c I only took 2 Aleves beforehand and I should have taken 800mg Ibuprofen. The girls that took that say it was not painful. For me it was! Especially when they introduced the catheter. As soon as they took it out, it was instant relief. Thank God everything was clear b/c I don't want to ever do that again. Maybe you're one of the lucky ones and it's a breeze for you. Just make sure to take that pain killer! And BTW, I don't have endo so I don't know why it hurt, maybe the doctor sucked or I have a tight cervix since I've never had children. The women who have given birth say it didn't hurt at all. GL!
Me: 44 DH: 42.
DS born healthy at 40 weeks 8/24/09.
TTC since then with no luck or ART.
Surprise BFP 8/6/14... MMC @ 8 weeks 4 days... Miss you everyday sweet baby angel.
(Prior to my first pregnancy) and after 13 cycles of TTC and nothing, I had this test done. Not that month, but the month after the HSG, I got pregnant! I swear this test did the trick for me. It must have cleared out the "cobwebs" or something. Two benefits! : )
There were no blockages seen on the test and the doctor performing the test told me there was a great chance of me getting pregnant in the next couple of cycles. She was so right!
It did HURT me too, but only as long as I could say "AHHHHHH", out loud. Then it was gone. It was the dye being injected, which was quick and I could see it on the monitor too. I took some Motrin beforehand. Not sure if it did anything. For me it was like a BIG, MAJOR, cramp, rush pinch feelling inside.
I do remember after the test I thought the anticipation and anxiety of just having the test was overwhelming. Almost like, wow, what a worry and it wasn't all that bad!. GL to you! I hope it helps you like it did me.
I had my HSG test done on 10/28. Everyone is different. Some people told me it hurt, some said it didn't. My experience: it was a little bit painful, but mostly very uncomfortable. I took 2 Advils before, and I can't tell you whether or not they worked. The test took about 20-30 minutes (including prep time). It just felt like I had constant cramping for about 15 minutes (think of a pap smear cramp for 15 minutes). When all is said and done, you still have cramping for about 30 minutes, but then it goes away. I had also heard that this test increases fertility for the next 2 to 3 cycles. Just think of the outcome. It'll make the test seem so worth it )
