Does anyone have an Ergo that they've used for back carrying? We have a Cat Bird Baby carrier, but it's only front carrying (Blah) so I need something that I can use on the back. What about a Kelty? I know they are a totally different type of carrier, but any input people have, I'd appreciate it : )
Re: Ergo or Kelty anyone?
We have the Kelty back up with a soft frame and it's okay. I spent a lot of $ on it. I actually have never worn DD#1, my hubby normally did. It was okay, but after awhile carrying a then 20lbers just sucks. We don't use it that much now at all.
I actually have the Beco Butterfly 2 that I use for DD#2 and I really like it a lot, although I have yet to wear her on my back.

What CatBird carrier do you have? A Pikkolo? Both their Pikkolo and Mei Tai can be worn on the back. I wear my CatBird MT on my back with my 13 month old. The only thing is since the waistbands aren't padded, some people arent' as comfortable with a bigger baby. They sell a support belt but I haven't tried it.
I also use an Ergo on my back. I like it but don't love it. It was too big for me when DD was smaller and now that it's more comfortable for me, it's getting too small for her. I think it depends on the age and size of your baby (and your size and shape too). How old/big is he/she? If you are in Baltimore, Soft and Cozy carries Ergos, Beccos, and Bobas, so you could try all of them and see what you like. If your baby is older or bigger, there are also some toddler carriers that might work better.
As for a Kelty, I wouldn't get a frame carrier unless you are doing a lot of hiking--they're just bulkier and not really necessary.
Yes, I have the Pikkolo - and you can carry on the back??? DH and I have tried to figure this out a hundred different ways and he seems so uncomfortable so I always assumed we had it wrong. He is 16 months - a little over 33'' and about 25 lbs... but I'm expecting so I wanted a good back carrying carrier for his little brother too.
I did score a practically new Kelty on CL for cheap... haven't used it yet... but for the price and quality of it, I couldn't pass it up. I think it will come in handy in the future for when we are up in Maine
You definitely can use the Pikkolo on your back, but that doesn't mean it's comfy I haven't tried it but there are instructions on their webpage.
But, I definitely prefer my Ergo for back carries to my MT. The waist padding makes a big difference.
Good luck!
I did see that Cat Bird Baby sells a padded waistband for their Pikkolo and Mei Tai
