Anywhere chair vs. ugly-where chair

Anyone have an uglysofa ugly-where chair? I am wondering how the quality is, and if you know how it compares to the pottery barn version. Want to get ds one for Christmas, and trying to decide if it's worth the savings to go with the ugly-where. (For anyone not familiar apparently ugly-where chairs are actual pottery barn slip covers that were overstocked/returned)

Also, anyone done an anywhere chair with an applique? Curious how the applique holds up over time. And if anyone has experience with which colors (boy) hold up well and hide stains. I also want to get it monogrammed, but I am thinking of doing that at a local shop- just because I don't want to go through the hassel if it comes out wrong from the company? any other experience would be greatly appreciated! thanks!

Re: Anywhere chair vs. ugly-where chair

  • There was a woman on the multiples board who had the uglywhere chairs and said they were great.  They come pretty squished in the box so they need a little time to get their shape back but she said it was worth it.  I have a friend who has the PBK chair in the chocolate color and wishes she had gotten a lighter slipcover because it shows every little cracker crumb or spit mark her son gets on it.  I had some outfits monogrammed at a local embroidery shop and it was more expensive than if I would have gotten it done through the place I ordered them from, so you might want to call some places locally and see how much they would charge.  I think if PB gets it wrong they will fix it at no cost.  :)

  • My dd has an Anywhere chair that's 6 months old and still looks great. She uses it all the time (it's "her" chair in our living room) and likes to climb and stand on it, even flip it around (new trick). The cover is brown with white polka dots and monogrammed with her name.  The only thing about the monogram is that your colors are limited top what cover you get. I could only get white or pink on hers, so I went with white. If thats a concern I'd check out other places. FWIW when I was buying a toddler pillow at the store the PBK lady said if I wanted it monogrammed to go to Lids (sports hat place) and that it's cheaper than them doing it.

Also, don't ever put it in the dryer, even to air fluff. Mine shrank ever so little but it doesn't fit 100% anymore and they can't do anything since its monogrammed.  Hope this helps!

  • We got DS an extra large uglywhere chair for the price of the small potterybarn version. They did free personalization and it looks great. The only difference I can tell between the two is that the pottery barn chairs have an extra layer of thin fabric over all of the internal foam pieces which the uglywhere chair does not. Only issue I had was that I had ordered it for my son's first birthday and luckily I ordered it really early because it took a LONG time to ship. Here's photos of ours "in action". Don't mind the wrinkles, I really should have pressed it before I assembled it and now I'm too lazy to undo it haha!

  • Thank you everyone for the responses! Keep them coming ;-)

Angelfire thanks! I will definitely think about the color I choose and how it will show crumbs/mess! Good thought!

Hokiemel thanks for the heads up about the dryer! Will remember that. And also will look into monogramming at lids J thx!

Leinistar ? I really appreciate the pictures ? that is the EXACT color I want to go with!!! So that means so much to me to see your pics! The monogram, just curious but what color is it compared to the trim? I just think I would have OCD about the trim and monogram being two totally different colors, if its obvious. But yours looks great! Do you feel like the Navy stays clean looking? Also worried that he might get milk etc. on it. But I love the look of that one. Thanks again!

  • The monogram and trim look identical to me. I told them the font type I wanted and to match the trim and it came out great. It does show every little bit of lint and fuzz, which is annoying so I kind of wish I had went with a taupe/beige color instead. I was meticulously cleaning it off at first but I kind of gave up. For now it's just in his room so I dont really care as much. When he gets older I'm hoping he wont be as linty lol.

  • I also wanted to mention, I went with the largest size. For comparison since everyone's babies are different, DH is 6' 200lbs and I'm 5'8" and a good 180lbs and we both fit in the chair, snugly for me, but we fit. I wanted something he wouldn't outgrow. It's still light enough for him to move around if he wants to though.

  • Sorry -- tardy to the party, but we have one of each.

DS1 has an authentic PBK cover and PBK inserts (both bought of ebay a couple yrs ago).  Couldn't find what I wanted on ebay for DS2, so we went with the ugly-where chair.  I really think they're super comparable.  The uglywhere might not be *quite* as dense, but that might be in my head, too.  I think they're basically identical, but the price certainly isn't!  I would go uglywhere again in a heartbeat.

As pp mentioned, the only very noticeable thing is that the PBK inserts have a thin layer of fabric over them.  Might hold up better over an extended period of time, but who knows (DS2's has only been around for 2.5mon).

Good luck!  I love them both.

  • thanks jellybean! It's great to hear a comparision of the two! Sounds like it's worth it to go with the ugly-where, since they are so similar. Really appreciate it!! Smile
