Double stroller?

I'm due in January and my two kids will be 21 months apart. It seems like the general consensus on the 2u2 board is that a double stroller is essential. But, my son never did like the infant carseat so we never used our stroller until he was a year old. I just wore him everywhere.

Is it naive to think I will be able to wear the new baby while pushing my toddler in a single stroller? Will I wish I had a double stroller? I do have a double burley that I can use once the baby is older. Thoughts from other baby wearing mamas?

Re: Double stroller?

  • Yes, wait and see is an obvious option. I was hoping to just get a better feel for what has worked for others. If it looks like I will likely want the double, it would be nice to be on the lookout for a deal on Craig's list or at mom to mon sales.

I don't have two, but I would keep an eye out for a good deal and go from there. If you come across a good deal, it doesn't hurt to pick it up now because at some point you will probably use the double. I'm thinking more when LO#2 gets bigger, but you never know.

And worst case scenario - it takes up space for a bit and you can always sell it if you never use it.

  • Wait and see, and then buy one on craigslist if you and up wanting/needing one. That's what I did, and saved over $200 buying my gently used double on craigslist.

  • I had a double stroller with my boys and planned on wearing LO. For me it worked well at first but then we switched it up (got a City Select where LO can be in the carseat, one DS in the seat and one DS on a glider board). My first issue you are not likely to run in to was that I got really hot. I live in AZ and LO was born in March. So by the time he was a couple months old walking to the park was really uncomfortable even without wearing a baby. Adding him and extra fabric to the heat didn't work well. The other thing was that while I like to wear him around the house and I always have my Ergo handy for when we are on outings/playdates etc. I like the ability to be able to just put his car seat in the stroller if he is asleep.

I agree with pp that you shouldn't rush into anything but if you find a great deal on CL, I'd go for it.

  • My kids are going to be 19 months apart. I never had a carrier with my son, but I plan on it with baby #2 because it just seems like the best choice for dealing with a toddler.

I'm keeping my eye out for a double stroller deal though, because I like to be prepared just in case! If I end up not using it, there are so many ways to trade it for something I may need more, or sell it for something, and I think I'll feel more prepared having one lol.

  • My kids were a bit further apart but I've never used even a single stroller unless we were going on a long day trip to the zoo or something and I was solo (although Callum was a good walker when Eleanor was born and rarely needed up so your situation may be a bit different).

I would totally wear the baby and use the single unless you find your needs are otherwise once baby is here.

  • I BW DD for everything, we don't use a stroller. I'm planning on tandem wearing as much as possible and using a single if necessary. When I go out with DH we'll wear one each.
