Teething and Diarrhea?

My DS is cutting his canines as we speak and today he has had diarrhea to the point of a sore bottom. He is otherwise feeling well and acting normal. I would have never associated the two until another mom mentioned that teething can cause diarrhea? What do you all think of this? Have you heard of it? If so, what's your take? Thoughts please!

I can never tell if one has to do with the other, but the kids have had diarrhea while teething a few times. I know for both kids the canines were the worst as far as pain, and they would only eat yogurt, applesauce, and other soft foods... so I always attributed the diarrhea to the change in diet, but I am by no means a doctor and have no idea if that theory even makes sense. GL

I think they tend to put their hands in their mouths more when teething, hence, more viruses. I've also heard that extra drool can upset tummies.

I've also heard this, and I completely believe it.  We have had massive drool, followed by diaper rash redness, followed by a tooth...every single time a new tooth has come through.

I have heard of the relation to teething and like PP it is true in our case too; only lasting a cpl days. Use diaper cream on their bottom for soothing.

DS had diarrhea when he was cutting molars. I think it must be from all the extra saliva. He also had a sore bottom/bit of diaper rash which he almost never has.

Thanks for all the thoughts! Seems like it is very common. Hopefully it will subside soon, until then keep the diaper cream coming!
