Hi ladies,
I've been lurking for a while, and I have recently been active on the TTC over 35 board, but I thought I'd finally say hello here.
I'm Melissa, 38 and DH (Robert) is also 38. I'm 6 weeks, 1 day along and due April 29th. We have a 21 month old DD. I'm nervous about this pregnancy because I've had a miscarriage (my first pregnancy was a missed miscarriage, long story but had to take medication to get my body to expel the baby since it wasn't doing it on its own...). My second pregnancy resulted in DD. Now I'm 38 and will be almost 39 when this LO is (hopefully) born. Today I had my first OB appointment. It was just a confirmation appointment, but I ended up getting an ultrasound, which I DID NOT want. With DD and with this one, I wanted no ultrasounds until at least 8 weeks when we could be sure of seeing something (unlike my first pregnancy where I had multiple ultrasounds starting at 6 weeks, it was horrible and gut wrenching waiting that I didn't want to go through again). I figure it doesn't change the outcome, so why go early? But my OB could not feel my uterus(!), so she did a quick abdominal scan to see where it was. Apparently, my uterus is now retroverted and also somewhere off to the side?! They must have moved it during my c-section. :P Anyways, we saw a gest sac and a yolk sac, but that's all she could see. She said that's all she would expect to see at this early stage on an abdominal, but now of course I'm even more scared! Especially seeing that some folks see heartbeats at 6 weeks. I am a late ovulator though and she did not do a vaginal scan, so I'm trying not to freak out yet. Darn it this is why I did not want any early scans!
Well thanks for reading this far. I look forward to getting to know you all and hopefully staying here for the next 9 months!
Re: Hello!
Welcome and congratulations! Sorry the u/s is freaking you out.
I did not know for sure that I was pregnant until I was already 7 weeks along! I had taken a pg test 2 weeks prior to that, but for whatever reason it came up negative. (Maybe it was operator error? Maybe the test malfunctioned? I still don't know what happened.) Even after I got a positive urine test, I went in for a blood test to confirm before I started getting excited. In retrospect, I am kind of glad I didn't know any earlier. I had been taking all the prenatal vitamins anyway and not drinking and such, so I was covered.
Over-40 parents...what we lack in vigor, we make up for with cunning.
Welcome! Hoping its a healthy & happy 9 months for you.
Congrats and Welcome!
I am surprised that your OB did an ab U/S and not transvag. That seems super early to do an abdominal but what do I know!?
I'm sure everything is fine and the next time you have an U/S you will see a wiggly gummy bear!
Thank you! She only did it because she couldn't find my uterus by doing a regular exam or a (gulp) rectal exam. It appears my uterus has somehow moved off to the side of my abdomen and also become retroverted. It's never happened to me before, even while not pregnant, that my doc couldn't find it at all. I blame my c-section - after I had that done, my insides felt like they were not in the right place. :P
