neither my husband or I have birthmarks (none noticeable) and my LO has a gigantic red raised birthmark on his entire forearm (huge to the point where I'm upset and defensive about it) - so, it wasn't genetic. We had his BM checked out and the dr says that like 90% of kids have birthmarks and its not genetic, it just "happens" its an overproduction of cells / blood vessels
BD has a birth mark just above his butt on his lower back... in the hospital they thought it was hair. but once I saw it I realized that it was a birth mark
I have one on my arm, my first daughter has a small one on her right side a little above her hip as well as a strawberry hemangioma on her ear, and my second daughter has a strawberry hemangioma on her big toe on her right foot.
neither my husband or I have birthmarks (none noticeable)
I wonder if you have a hidden one?
My DS has a huge (2 inch diameter) red circle birth mark on the back of his head that was only visible when he lost all his hair as a baby. Now that he has hair, even blond hair, it's not visible now.
I didn't realize so many people had them! My mother had one on her lower back...it was a dark brown oval and it was cancerous so it was removed. Mine is light brown (tan) with tons of freckles in it. (I call it a rotten potato) and its on my upper back. I luckily don't have cancerous cells in mine.
Hubby doesn't have any marks but was born with 3 thumbs (so our son might have 3 as well...)
As we near my due date I am getting more and more interested in what our son will look like and what features he will have
I didn't know so many people had birthmarks though! I thought they were rare, it's interesting to hear about all the different ones I have always been self conscience about mine but I guess there is no need to be.

Re: Birthmarks
Yeah, I have a birth mark and the kids (all 3) have birthmarks. Not all in the same spot or anything, I don't think that's a genetic thing?
I thought everyone had birth marks, some just don't know where they are?

My daughter has one on the top of her head. It will be covered by hair once that comes in. I haven't seen one on my son as of yet.
