Somebody please advise to me prices on CL.
I put up a bunch of baby/kids stuff since I'm redoing the girl's room and NOBODY has inquired. I put everything about 50+ cheaper then what it retails in store...I mean I don't want to just sell it for like 20 bucks I wanna get some money back on it KWIM? all of it is still in excellent condition and you can find all items still in stores at full retail value.
I've got:
Changing table with pad
Girls curtains and rug
The Hayley collection PBK crib stuff w/ extra pillows and paintings for the walls
dresser that DH and I refinshed and painted
I'm just like wth....

Same here. I won't even open listings w/o photos.
Are there other similar items listed for sale in your area? How do their prices compare to yours?
Honestly two things. Most people wont pay over 1/2 -1/3 of the orginal price on anything on Craigslist.
The other thing here in Chicago is I know a lot of people are really hesitant to buy anything that has fabric since bed bugs are becoming a huge problem in the city, dont know if that's the case where you are but that might be part of what's stopping folks on the curtains/rug and crib stuff.
ETA: Yeah pictures are a must, without them I'm not even bothering with someone.
Think of Craigslist like a Virtual Garage Sale. It's as is and no returns, so people expect it to be cheap.
What I tend to do when selling stuff on CL is post it as is, cash only and $X or best offer.
That way, people feel that you are up for negotiation, but it gives you the opportunity to wait for the amount you find most appropriate for the item.
If you aren't getting any responses, start lowering the price by $5 or so. Eventually, you will hit the market value on the item and you'll get a ton of responses.
And as SSM said, pictures are a must.
Pictures: Yes.
Changing table is 70.00 w/ organizing bins (3) 80.00 (in store retail 130; bins 10/each)
Bedding: 70.00 (retails 165)
Owl Pictures: 15.00 for 2
Rug and Curtains 30.00 or 15/each (retails 60.00)
Dresser is 80.00 we put a lot of work into that so it's hard for me to just piss that away I feel like that on could be lowered...but it's so freakin cute and CUSTOM nobody has one like it...meh.
Yea the dresser I get. Everything else though it's hard to just be like okay 30.00 for stuff I paid so much for...I do want to get rid of it though it's just sitting around doing nothing...like I said, all of it is still available in stores and is only like 1-2 years old at best. so it makes it hard for me...but I guess I gotta do what I gotta do damnit.
Changing table doesn't seem over priced but not a great deal either. I'd throw in the bins and not charge. So, in my ad I'd say "Changing Table $65, will throw in 3 bins at no cost, original price for everything was $160", since you're only asking for $10 additional (unless you want $80 for the bins. Then you're nuts, lol)
Bedding is high, around here people ask for about $50-60ish. Even for pottery barn. That's average. of course people will be all "PAY ME ONE MEEELION DOLLARS" but the average is 50-60.
You probably won't get a hit for owl pictures, you could lump it into the rug/curtains and sell the bundle for $30.
The dresser, I'd need to see a picture of before I can give you my opinion.
You can't look at this as "recouping costs". You need to look at it as "at least I'll get more than at a consignment shop". Which you'd net less than $100 for everything you just listed.

Yep. Too high.
Not that I know what people pay for those items used, but I know that compared to retail value, you are asking too much.
I do always start on the higher end just to see if anyone is willing to pay that, but if you are motivated to sell, lower your prices.
Sorry, but the pp is right. Unfortunately, the prices are too high and people want to feel like they are getting a really good deal. I would say that if you dropped your above prices by half, you should start getting some responses. I know it's hard to feel like you are giving your stuff away. I recently did this myself & some of the items were hard to part with for cheap. I would rather have something for it though than keep it around & clutter up my house.
some people are willing to pay more for name brand, like Pottery Barn vs getting something slap up like Ikea.
Now, if your changing table ISN'T pottery barn or a nice brand name, i was assuming it was, then I'd knock that down to $45-50 with bins.

Also, if there is a glut in the market of what you're trying to sell, you'll have to pretty much give it away.
For strollers, around here, people will pay about half of what it cost new. But for bedding, there's a lot of it and it doesn't fly off of the shelf unless it's super mega cheap.

Yea that's kind of where I was starting and was just hoping people would be like sweet, heres my cash...lol but not happening...this sucks. wah wah wah
$80 is WAY too expensive for a dresser with a broken green drawer. I'd maybe pay $25 for that. Maybe. It's NMS though.
I figured that...it's not my phone number lol I figure creepos will already try and call from around here too...but, alas it's not my address! I think we're safe.
Consignment wouldn't even give you $50 for all that. They wouldn't even take the dresser.

Your stuff is cute, but it's for a particular buyer. You can leave it up at the prices you have for a couple months and that buyer might come around.
I'm normally ready to get rid of stuff as soon as I post it on CL, so I would lower the price every week or couple of days and renew your ad so it gets bumped to the top.
Like I said before, it's all about how motivated you are to get rid of it.
thanks for your honestly, you're a huge help! seriously, I'm soooo out of the loop on stuff...Back to lowering my damn prices.
I'm surprised you haven't gotten interest in the changing table. That's something everyone needs and they don't vary that much.
You're going to struggle to sell the curtains and rug for any reasonable price. Tastes vary on those things and "used rug" is not appealing to a lot of people. For the paintings they either need to be cheap, or you have to find the right buyer, which will take a lot of patience.
The dresser it just depends on how it looks now. Bigger furniture you do run into the fact there might be people interested who don't have a vehicle they can move it in.
Americans in general like buying things new. There are only a few things there really is a hot market for used; strollers are a big one. Even furniture is tough because of the "how do you transport it?" issue I mentioned.
Try listing a couple more times, but you may have to drop your prices if you aren't even getting lowball offers. But Labor Day Weekend may not have been the best, since a lot of people travel and aren't' online as much.

Here are some tips for you.
1. Sell the bedding and curtains on ebay too. The market is much bigger and the owl stuff is cute and super trendy right now.
2. Drop the price on the painted dresser.
3. In your listings, always write out the brand name like pottery barn and write out "check out my other listings. I'm selling girl owl baby bedding, baby changing table" That way, your other listings will come up and cross sell (i.e. someone looking for a changing table will pull up your bedding too and they might get interested).
4. Also offer "I'll give you a deal if you buy more than one item" that seems to get a response a lot.
5. Include a link to Amazon or wherever your item sells new for retail. That convinces people that it is new and still on the market and verifies the original price.
6. List the original price in your ad.
SMARTY!! okay I did lower the bedding a tad, I'll wait and see what happens with the rest and keep bumping up til friday.
Me neither.
