I gave birth to our first child in May and have been feeling fine up until about 2 weeks ago. I am more tired, irretable, emotional etc. This came on rather suddenly and I have been feeling so overwhelemed and alone despite the fact that nothing in my personal or professional life has changed in the past month or so.
I called my Dr thinking this was PPD but the nurse told me it couldn't be since PPD comes on right after birth and told me i should call Psych. I googled PPD after I hung up and it seems this could be PPD. I am so frustrated right now since I feel I need to talk to someone and don't feel calling Psych is the answer since I feel this is PPD (I have no history of depression or mood swings).
Your thoughts? Should I call the nurse back and insist I feel this is PPD and insist I see someone from the Women's Health Center or just call the Psych unit and get an appointment.
In your experience does PPD only come on right after birth or is 3.5 months a reasonable amount of time for PPD to present itself.
Re: PPD: Frustrated
That nurse is an idiot. I just went to see my doctor about PPD and my son is 5 months old. I felt okay the first few months. My understanding is that PPD can come on anytime in the first year after giving birth.
I would call back and insist to see whoever you intended to see, that nurse doesn't know what she is talking about. I hope you get some answers soon! (((hugs)))
This! Exactly!

Deffinetely give the Dr's office a call back and hopefully you'll get to speak to a nurse that actually knows what shes talking about.
Also......have you considered the possibility that it might be your bc? Did you go on something different after your child was born that may be altering your moods? BC can cause havoc on your hormones and its something that a lot of women forget to consider. Just something to consider because I never had any depression/anxiety history until I had a hormonal inbalance due to my bc.
