Night terrors??

Does anyone know when night terrors can start?? For the last week or so Connor is up one to two times a night screaming...it's not a my mouth hurts cry, it's a serious horror movie scream. I have found that turning the little lamp on in his room or bringing him in our room and turning the TV on are the only things that calm him down. Last night he was screamed and thrashing about the crib but his eyes were closed the entire time. I can only assume that he's having night terrors but I'm not totally sure. Anyone else going through this??

Re: Night terrors??

  • My DD had them when she was really young. I described it to her pedi and that's what she said it was. I just did as you did and calmed her best I could. She got over it after a few weeks but I felt so bad. Not sure how they happen.

  • I have to make his 15 month appointment so I guess I'l lask the pediatrician then. I hope he gets over this before then though.

  • B has been doing this, and it's gas pains. It's screaming that stops my heart, I swear. We've had to resort to gas drops!
  • This is happening at my house. I asked the pedi and she said he isn't really awake, and that the best thing to do is just let him kind of hash it out (I pick him up, but he doesn't really wake up, nor does he calm down much) and make sure he's safe. They are completely freaky and I know exactly what you mean: It isn't like teething or gas or anything else, it's like straight-up blood curdling screaming.

Eventually I guess they grow out of it. They suck!

  • Something like this happened with DS recently. He woke up crying hard and we went in and he was squirming around and his eyes were open but he did not seem to see us. I don't think he was really awake. He calmed down by himself and was quiet. It was odd though.
