Infertility

What am I supposed to do with my empty vials?

Hey ladies, what are you doing with your empty vials?  I'm doing Repronex, so right now I've got like 8 little vials from the Repronex and the water, plus nearing the end of my first Lupron bottle.  Right now I've just been bagging them on my counter, but can they be thrown away?  Sharps box?

(Oh and the Repronex makes it so I basically can't sit for more than like 20 minutes... ouch!)

  • You can technically toss them in the trash. The only thing that you can't throw away and must go in the sharps container is the needle tips. I used to put everything vials, syringes and needles in the sharps container but it quickly filled up so I stopped doing that...

  • Thanks, everyone!  I'll just keep collecting them in a baggie for now and decide what I'll do after I've got a collection.  I'm paranoid about someone seeing them in my trash if they walk by my curb (is that super crazy?).

This!  To get rid of sharps and bio-hazard is very expensive and that's all that should go into a sharps container.

  • I throw them out in the regular trash, though I have contemplated saving them to make art out of. They have no drugs left in them, the needle doesn't touch them after touching blood, and I don't know if they are recyclable (some glass isn't by us.)

I've only been putting actual needles and pre-filled syringes in the sharps container.

    4 IUIs: Bfn

  • I've just been tossing mine in the trash. Oops. Am I a naughty IVFer?
  • Didn't you just need to take the sharps box into your RE's office? Mine would just switch out a full one for an empty one.
