Pumping/Supply Question

Currently, I feed DS in the morning on one side and then pump the other side. I've always done this in the past, after the first morning feeding to build up a supply, and it's been fine. For whatever reason, though I'm not letting down and usually get an ounce or so...not enough. At my second pumping session I have been getting maybe 7-8oz, sometimes 6, and then about 4oz at the third pumping session. I need at least 12oz. How do I get more milk from that first pumping session? I can't change the timing of it, and the 2nd session is about 5 hours after it, and the 3rd session is about 3 hours after the 2nd. Is there anything I can do?

Re: Pumping/Supply Question

  • You can pump both sides after the first feeding if you want.  I used to do this.  It may cause you a slight oversupply, so be careful, but I would get milk from both sides even after DD ate.  You could also add a session at night after your LO goes to bed to get any extra milk you need.  Your output during your other sessions sounds great!
