Worst head injury to date!

H was spinning DS around by his arms, and in the middle of doing it I was like don't do that you know I hate it it's a bad idea blah blah blah. He sets him down, and DS took one step and fell sideways into the bottom of the tv stand. He was so dizzy he couldn't keep himself upright. He has such a bad knot on the side of his head and it took 45 minutes just to get him to stop crying. And OF COURSE it happened right before bed! I have a very bad feeling H and DS are going to get each other hurt a lot for many many years to come... Sigh.

Re: Worst head injury to date!

  • Poor baby!  I'm glad he's ok.

DD had a bad fall and head injury tonight too.  A little friend came up to give her a hug and hugged too hard and she toppled backwards and hit the back of her head against the cement floor.  She stopped breathing and lost consciousness for a few seconds and it was the scariest moment of my life.  We called an ambulance.  She revived pretty quickly and seemed ok by the time the ambulance arrived, but they still wanted to take her for tests.  The doctor was concerned about how long she might have been unconscious and so they did a CT scan (which I was hoping they wouldn't have to do, because I'm concerned about the radiation, but he was adamant that the benefits outweighed the risks in this case).  Thankfully it came back negative for bleeding or swelling, and she seems ok now.  What a scary night!

I hope your DS and my DD both wake up totally happy and healthy and thinking the events of the night before were just a bad dream!

  • Yikes! 45 minutes is a long time, you didnt think to take him to get checked out?? Are you going to wake him throughout the night at least? I know accidents happen but head injuries are not something to really mess with.

  • OK. after reading this last night, I guess I'm not the only one who was a bit concerned. that sounds pretty bad. 45 minutes to calm is a long time .

  • I was thinking of taking him to the ER, but I guess I talked myself out of it. I usually am overreacting about injuries, so I guess I just figured I was over reacting. He's okay today though! He's acting completely normal, no issues. He screamed and squeeled and giggled when I came home from work today and gave me a big hug and a kiss. I think he was crying so long mostly because he was tired. I was seriously going to put him to bed when H started spinning him. H feels like an ss, and I hope he remembers this next time he wants to horse around!

Lolly I can't believe your DD got knocked unconscious! How freaking scary! I was knocked unconscious multiple times as a kid from head injuries, and I know my mom to this day still gets emotional talking about it. Is she doing okay today??
  • Glad to hear he seems okay today.

Yes, she is doing ok today.  We're definitely over-analyzing everything she does and says to verify everything is "normal."  I'm really glad we went to the ER just to rule anything bad out, because we're a mess today even KNOWING that all the bad stuff was ruled out.  What a stressful 24 hours!  I'm glad your DS is doing well today too.  Thank goodness for these littles ones' resilience.
