Help! My child won't go to sleep

Im loosing my mind! My child used to do just fine going to bed without giving us a fit. Now that we have a new one in the house it has been awful. She will not go to sleep for anything. Every night gets later and later for her to fall asleep. Does anyone have any suggestions on what we should do?

  • what have you tried so far

  • We have tried turning all the lights off in the house and laid down with her but it's like she has night vision so that doesnt work. I've given her warm milk when laying down. Tried putting her in her crib that doesn't work because she screams her head off.
  • How old is she?

  • We also having the same problem regarding the sleeping hours.

Sometimes starting everything a bit earlier ( half an hour) and getting to bed earlier ( lets say, 7:30 instead of 8) fix it.... I'm going to try it tonight.

  • Last night we tried putting her in our bed at 8 and she didn't go to sleep she tossed and turned and kept talking. That went on for an hour. After that we put her in her bed and she screamed for about 10 mins then we didn't hear anything she instantly went to sleep : this morning woke her up at 630 and I let her take a hour nap at around 8. I'm letting her take another nap now but we will try bed time at 8 again tonight .
  • Does she at home with you? Do you keep a daily schedule with her( meals, bath time, dinner)?

I've noticed with my 20 months, that if we let him get to bed later than usual, it become a nightmare. It is very hard for him to fall to sleep. I heard ( and tried in the past) that if we bring them to bed earlier before they are too tired, it is easy for them to actually fall to sleep.

And of course, we need to be consistent...

  • Yes she stays at home with me. We used to be on a schedule before we had or new addition. We do eat our meals at a set time. Her naps are also normally at the same time everyday.

Do you have a picky eater?
  • He isn't much picky as he just eat very little. I really need to do all sorts of things to make him eat. In about a month his sister will join us, and I don't know where I'll bring the energy or time during dinner...

By the way, this evening I started everything 30 minutes earlier, and he also fell asleep 30 minutes earlier....tomorrow I'm going to try even a bit earlier than today.

    How was it for you?

  • Is it something with this time of year!!!?!? LOL...my 20 month old usually is a GREAT sleeper. Since Saturday, bedtime has been HORRIBLE!! We've been doing our normal routine and it's not working. I think she might be having some separation anxiety and/or teething issues. But I've tried everything! Sunday night the only way she would go to sleep was laying on me. Monday night I put her to bed and she cried for almost an hour. I got her out of her crib and cuddled for about 20 mins. Put her back in her crib and another almost hour of crying before she finally went to sleep. Last night she cried in her crib for almost 1 1/2 hours - kept sounding like she was finally giving in, and then would start screaming again. I brought her in to bed with me and within 5 mins she was sound asleep. Next problem is that she usually will sleep until 7:30 or later. The last 4 days she's been up before 6!! I think this has to do with her not getting to bed until 2 hours later than usual. I have no idea what else to do. I'm calling the doctor this morning b/c I want to rule out any infections....and then we'll be back to just trying to let her cry it out!
