We got home around 7pm and its like you flipped a switch in Andrew. He's not as fussy anymore, he let me put him down in his crib no problem. It's like we never had a 6 day visit to the hospital!!
Last night was a nightmare! He wouldn't sleep unless I was holding him, he has NEVER done that. So the nurse set up the bed so that he could sleep with me and then after 2 hrs of sleep when that was no longer working we put him in a vibrating bouncy chair and that helped him sleep a few more hours. The surgeons assistant came in in the morning and said he can go back on 100% breast milk . She would be back in 8 hours and if the output from his chest tube was still minimal and clear she would take it out and we could go home.
She came in at 5 and all was good, she took it out (he didn't like the process, but you could tell he felt better once he calmed down). Then we headed home, stopping by the grocery store on the way home.
I imagine he'll wake in the middle of the night for more pain meds but he's been down for over an hour now and doing good. It is so good to be home, and now we're just praying that his VSD (hole in heart) will close on its own so that we don't have to go through this all over again when he's a preschooler!
