Baby Names

Is it awful??

I am not currently pregnant, will be TTC soon.  But I am named after my dad (his name is Daniel I am Danielle) I love the idea of naming a daughter after their dad.  My husband's name is Ryan and I thought Ryana sounded like a pretty name (pronounced Rye-ona) but I need other opinions....be honest ;) won't hurt my feelings.

Re: Is it awful??

  • On babynames.com I found Ryann (Rye-ann), which I like better than Ryana, which I think you just made up, right? Wink

  • What about Maryanne? It has Ryan in it :)

    Other option would be Ryanne.

I don't care for Ryana, because I wouldn't know how to pronounce it. Rye-anna? Rye-ona? (Which is what you said you'd use, but that isn't intuitive IMO). Ryan-uh? etc.

  • There is also Rhian-which I typically find pronounced Ree-un or Ree-ann

  • I do not think people would pronounce Ryana "Rye-Ona", if you are set on that pronunciation I would be prepared to constantly correct people.  Maybe you could look at names that have ryan within the name, or perhaps something that fits his middle name?

  • Not a fan, sorry. Rhiannon, Rhian, Raina, maybe something like Brianne? What's his middle name? Could you do a play on that?

  • Middle name is Curtis....not a fan of that unfortunately

I will keep thinking.  All of the feedback i got was exactly what I assumed :)  I am going to scratch Ryana off my list ;)

    Thanks for the input.

I like Emerson Isabella as another choice (which I am sure is also not a fan favorite) I have plenty of time to nail down a name and I am sure I will probably change it a million times from now until then!!

  • If it is that important I would just do Ryan as her middle name. Pair with a feminine first name and it could be cute.

  • Sorry but I don't like it, sounds made up. How about Rhianna or using Ryan for a middle name.
  • Why wouldn't you just use Ryan.  I know a couple of girls names Ryan.

I don't like the name you came up with.  It sounds made up and I definitly would not pronounce it the way you want to.

  • There was a girl in my highschool class named Rhiannon.  I never liked the name because it sounded kinda boyish to me but thought I'd throw it out there.  You could also use something like Brianna or Brianne or Brienne which also have a 'Ryan'-like sound to them.
  • To me, Daniel/ Danielle is different than Ryan/ Ryana (although it is not something that I'd do for my child). Danielle is a legitimate name. Ryana is fabricated and I would pronounce it "Rya-ANNA" personally, not the way you mentioned it. I really don't like it honestly. Could you use Ryan as a middle name with a feminine first name.

This, definitely not how I'd pronounce that.

  • I'd go with Rhiannon, Riane, Rianna, etc.  The established female variants on the name.

  • First off, I LOVE Ryan for a girl.  But, you really can't have a boy Ryan and a girl Ryan in the same household.

I love Ryanne (Ry-ann) and Rhiannon.

We gave DD DH's name as a middle name- Jo.  Maybe use Ryan and a middle name and give her a very girly first name.

I like this suggestion, as long as the first name is clearly a girl's name.

  • I honestly don't care for it. However I do know a female Ryan spelled Rian.  How about Reyna?

  • I don't care for Ryana.  I do like pp's suggestion of Rhiannon though.

  • I like the suggestion of Rhiannon.

I know you're not asking, but I think there are already way too many little boys given their fathers' names without throwing girls into the mix too.
