New to The Bump

Am I Crazy?

This past month has been so frustrating for me.. July 22nd, My breasts started to get very sore. They had never been this sore, and my period wasn't due for another 2 weeks, well then I had what I thought was my period a week early but it was lighter and shorter than usual. My breast are still very sore, they're bigger, firmer, I am just now starting to notice blue veins on my breasts. I am constantly tired, If I'm not in bed by 9:30 lately it's a miracle. I have been nauseous, no throwing up though ( but I haven't actually thrown up since I was in 5th grade, and I'm 24 now) I also have crazy dry mouth. I have also been bloated, and If I were pregnant I would be 8 weeks tomorrow, and I know they say that's too early to notice a difference in your stomach, but I have noticed a little bulge in my lower stomach and it feels firm. I have taken 6 home pregnancy tests, and they have all been negative, I went to the doctor and the urine test they gave me came back negative, and the Dr, told me it was probably just stress casing my body to do this. and that was all she had to say. I've heard about women who have to have a blood test because the urine test doesn't work for them. My doctor didn't really seem to care though. I left the office with a prescription for birth control pills ( which I refuse to take, until I figure out what's going on) and a pap smear appt. in a few months. I'm honestly starting to feel crazy for thinking I may be pregnant, after having so many negative tests. has anyone else gone through this, I could really use your feedback! :)

Re: Am I Crazy?

  • Hi,

I don't think your crazy!  I read in one of the many pregnancy books I'm reading that sometimes it can take quite a while for your hormone levels to show up.  Don't quote me but I could have sworn I read somewhere it might take up to 12weeks!!!  Plus unless you know exactly when you ovulate and when you had sex it really makes it hard.  Doctors go by Gestational age (GA) not the actual age.  If you have pain in you uterus go back into your doctor and preferably your OB.  I had a lot of pain and thought I might be as far as 8 weeks along and my doctor seemed to care less.  I called my OB and they weren't even going to look at me until I was 13 weeks along.  I changed health care providers called and got an appointment that day and it turns out I was barely six weeks.  They wanted to double check the I didn't have an ectopic pregnancy (where the egg implants in the fallopian tube not the uterus).  Luckily everything is ok, but it doesn't hurt to check.  My OB took me a lot more seriously and didn't make me feel like a hypochondriac. Good luck!

  • I dont think your crazy. Most dr.s (I know of) ONLY do bloodwork to tell if your pregnant or not b/c urine doesnt always give you the best results. I would go to your dr again and ask for a bloodtest instead. You know your body than anyone else (even tho dr.s think they do). It seems like you might be but you never know. Good Luck

This is horrible advice. Save your money and your doctor's time, OP.

Exactly.  I've known of literally THOUSANDS of pregnant women (both irl and through my numerous years on the bump) and I only know of ONE---yes 1----ONE that (despite numerous pregnancies) is unable to metabolize HCG in their urine.   That person has serious IF issues (unrelated) that has led to numerous m/c and 2nd tri losses and so any time she thinks she might be pregnant, she has to go in for blood work.   Everyone else who thinks they might be, but get bfn's are actually NOT pregnant.  I'm sorry, it sucks and it's frustrating, but I'm going to call no.
