May 2012 Moms

my daughter rolled over...

...and landed right on the floor! Yes, she tumbled off the sofa and onto the (carpeted) floor! Ack!!!

After a mild heart attack while diving to try and catch her (I had been sitting right next to her and she slipped from under my hand) I noticed she didn't even react. It was like her expression said, "Oh, okay. So I'm down here now. No biggie." I picked her up and she gave me a huge grin followed by a whole series of giggles. The BEST giggles I've ever heard in my life!

Thank God she didn't get hurt but I think I just aged about ten years!

  • My friend's family has a superstition that if a baby does not fall off either a bed or a couch before the first birthday, they will not make it past 3 years. Morbid, yes, but at least you don't have to worry about it now! My friend threatened to come and "gently nudge" my LO off the low couch  on her birthday. Um.... no thanks!

  • Aw...I had a mini heart attack just reading that!!  Thank God she's ok.  Babies are slippery little suckers aren't they :)

  • Poor little girl!!  So glad she reacted with grins and giggles :)    I know that feeling of aging a few years ;)        And just think this is only the beginning of bumps n bangs for our little ones ...

  • I am glad she wasn't traumatized over the experience seeing as she was giggling.  What a goofball!  I am paranoid about that happening too since DS is rolling on his side now.  Before I know it he will be completely rolling over.

  • At one point, every baby will roll off the couch, bed, etc to the floor.  If it doesn't happen with you, it will with someone else!  9 out of 10 times they'll be okay :). No worries mama!  Just another milestone!!

  • Glad she is ok!  It would have given me a heart attack too.  I'm sure it really does happen to every baby but that doesn't make it any less hard for the mamas!
